"So good it's almost poetic"
I've read a lot of books on religion (including the excellent God Delusion), but I think this one was the best.
Unfortunately, Hitchins reading sounds bored and comes off arrogant (which I guess he is) but in spite of this the book is completely amazing! He has had so many experiences and been all around the world.
I want to buy this for my religious sister who loves good prose and intelligent debate. Hitchins excels in both so she may be persuaded by his arguments against religion. We'll see.
Highly recommended if you really want to know why "religion poisons everything" and why there almost certainly is no god.
"Absolutely fantastic!"
Enchanting story told well.
Gyllenhaal's performance is enthralling. It draws you in. He changes his voice for each character, and doesn't sound ridiculous as the female characters. Fantastic!
"Still The Best Self-Help Book Ever Written"
First published in 1936 and updated in 1981 (Stevie Wonder reference, etc).
I have read this book at twice before, back in the 90's. I picked it up now as an audio book for the first time. The reader sounds like a news caster from the 70's (and in his 70's) with a deep, clear voice. He speaks distinctly and is very good.
You will want to listen to this over and over again. It has some of the best advice on how to be a better husband, father, friend, manager, anything you want. The principles should be taught in schools or churches instead of half the useless stuff they teach there.
But since it isn't taught anywhere else, get the book now and learn it! You will never regret it. :)
"Classic stories told by a tired old winchester"
These stories are of course timeless classics of the highest quality. My issue is with the narrator.
He does a fine job with Rabbit's and Owl's voices and one could possibly appreciate his Pooh and Piglet voices. But what he does with Eeyore and especially Tigger is inexcusable! Turns them into sophisticated stuck-up nose-in-the-air Stanford types. Not the lovable characters we imagine when reading the stories ourselves.
Oh how I wish Sebastian Cabot could have made this.
"Evangelical Pastor Preaching Biblical Sermon"
I was looking for something to help me gain a more positive attitude and help me spread enthusiasm and joy to my friends and family members (mostly my kids).
This is a SERMON, preached by a fine speaker, but a preacher none-the-less, full of Bible quotes and all.
Unless one likes paying to hear people preach to them about the Bible, this should be avoided at all costs.
If you are a fundamentalist Christian, and deem the Bible to be the infallible Word Of God which will guide mankind through every aspect in their lives, you might like this. Just be aware of what it is:
An enthusiastic Evangelical Pastor preaching a Biblical sermon to a live audience.
Note that Every Single release by High Impact Living is a sermon by this preacher-man.
