This book didn't have the grace of Downton Abby, but the story was solid. Certainly a coming of age story in time of WWII. I would recommend the book. It provides yet another story of how people existed during WWII and the heartache and anxiety that was felt by all.
I recently read War Brides and found that it gave me good background for what was happening outside of big houses like Tyneford. The Distant Hours, by Kate Morton, was a similar story of living in the big estate during war. I think I enjoyed Tyneford the least of these three, actually. Still, I did enjoy it and would recommend it.
Elise, the main character was the most memorable. It was her story, her life we followed.
Well, I listened to it while traveling. I enjoy that, and Neil's books are clever and entertaining.
I listened to this book because I enjoy Neil Gaiman's books and his quirky characters. I have listened to Neverwhere and The Graveyard Book as well. So far The Graveyard Book is my favorite.
No. #1. It doesn't have a conclusion in this book. #2. It is very repetitive. It takes too long to explain simple things. Too wordy.
Bennie and Vinnie
Blackout needs a conclusion in this book.
The performance was outstanding! The accents and character changes were excellent.
I will definitely try another of his books.
His voice brought the story to life and I felt like I would like to go there to Tipperary!
I found the story to be interesting and enjoyable. I loved the characters and the history.
Great story! Too much sex for me and no way to skip it! But the story kept me glued!
I love historical fiction and Civil War history. This book took me there and fed my thirst for information while giving me a sense of the struggles of individuals involved in a beautifully written story. Hats off to the narrator, Kimberly Farr, as well.
Well developed characters and lots of twists and turns. Beautifully written and beautifully read! I will definitely look for more from this author.
