Through a brilliant array of voices and perspectives, author Mohsin Hamid tells the story of one love-struck Daru Shezad who, when fired from his banking job, instantly removes himself from the ranks of Pakistan's cell-phone-toting elite and plunges into a life of drugs and crime. But when a heist goes awry, Daru finds himself on trial for a murder he may or may not have committed.

If you could sum up Moth Smoke in three words, what would they be?

    Riveting, Life, Reality

What other book might you compare Moth Smoke to and why?

"The Reluctant Fundamentalist" - because it's the same author so similar writing style
"The Kite Runner" because it also tells a history of a few people and how they're lives are so intertwined and affected by the actions of each other
"And the Mountains Echoed" because this story also traverses generations, relationships and lives

Have you listened to any of Satya Babha’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes! Amazing narration - this narrator is awesome - he's just amazing I love his narration...going to look for more titles that he narrated!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Mumtaz makes a decision - near the end of the story

    Any additional comments?

Wow! I'm impressed with this author...ive read both his books, and I'm wondering what else he's written...would love to read more by him - Mohsin Hamid you just became one of my favorite authors!

  • Golden Bones: An Extraordinary Journey from Hell in Cambodia to a New Life in America

    Story
    (6)

In Cambodia in the 1960s, Pol Pot and his Khmer Rouge declared war on their own people, enslaving and slaughtering anybody who disagreed with them. Sichan Siv knew he would soon be a target - ending up, perhaps, as one of the millions of anonymous human skeletons buried in his nation's Killing Fields - so he heeded his mother's pleas and ran. Captured and forced to perform slave labor, Siv feared that he'd be worked to death or killed. But he never abandoned hope or his improbable dream of freedom - a dream that liberated him.

    Story
What made the experience of listening to Golden Bones the most enjoyable?

The narrator is amazing, the story is simply incredible. You almost can't believe that the events are something which a human being have endured. I think this book is such a clever combination of history interwoven in the life of Sichan Siv. I really wanted to learn more about the history of Cambodia and this book was a real glimpse from someone who experienced the atrocities and life of the 1970s Cambodia.

What did you like best about this story?

The flow of the story, the way the story continuously ties in with the family of the character and also talks about the geography of Cambodia.

Which character – as performed by David Thorn – was your favorite?

Sichan Siv - the main character - i just really liked how the main character was played.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES! i wanted to but couldn't! One of the reasons is that it's a very long story so it needs to be heard in chunks plus - I enjoyed going back and checking out the places Sichan Siv talks about online, looking at the map and seeing his journey as the book went on.

    Any additional comments?

This book is simply phenomenal. It's a real glimpse into the history of his life and his country - Cambodia!

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Help to be better than the print version?

This was an amazing story!...I learned much about the era of the 50's and 60's relating to black and white families especially of the Mississippi area...

The book was not only amazingly written but amazingly narrated...awesome characterizations and real life voices - really made it hard to turn it off!

Wishing that there is a sequel ...would love to know how it goes for all the characters in the future!
