"Not as good a previous Scarpetta novels"
I have read all the Kay Scarpetta novels and have enjoyed most of them. However, this last novel, Kay seems to be a complaining, somewhat souless character. Her attitude to Marino, who used to be a good friend is always angry, her relationship with Lucy seems somewhat disconnected, as wtih Bently. And when the villain is finally identified, it is almost as if Ms Cornwall had no idea who should be in this role, and quickly selected a character we had not met before in the story. So all in all this novel seems discordant and disconnected.
"A crime thriller with a difference"
This is not just a police procedural novel that keeps you tied in with suspense. It is also a wonderful story about a dog and a man and how they help each other come out of the depths of their personal despair. If you like dogs and like thrillers this is a must read. I loved it. Robert Crais paints real life characters with very real emotions and you can relate to them every step of the way.
"Keeps you listening!"
I really enjoyed this book - the characters were believable, and people you could relate to - either liking or disliking them. The suspense keeps building throughout the book. I generally do not like anything that is "supernatural" or futuristic - but this book had me because by the time I found out what the climax of the suspense was all about, I was completely involved. Reminds me a bit of the TV show "Lost". The narrator, Ray Porter, does an excellent job with all the different voices - the accents, the personalities come alive as he narrates.
"Suspenseful, believable and thought provoking"
The premise of the stroy is very believable and really gives you pause for thought. The events in this book could well be in our near future. The only weakness for me, was the romance thrown in - not really necessary, hence i dropped the overall and story ratings to 4 stars. This one had me listening, keen to know what was coming next!
"Very expected - not worth a credit"
I was really keen to listen to this story - i thought the Amish setting would give some interesting culture insights and that it did do. BUT the story line was so typical - strong woman who can hold up her own, thinking of the dark handsome man all the time - and then the unravelling of the mystery, just seemed too easy. This is really a romance hiding behind a mystery - not my cup of tea. Wont read this author again.
"Not quite up to the normal Nevada Barr standard"
I love the Anna Pigeon mysteries, and really enjoy the book settings in the national parks. Nevada Barr does a great job of making the parks come to life. However in this latest novel, the plot is bit hard to believe, although Nevada Barr's description of the outdoors is up to her ususal high standard. I had some difficulty with the moral justice in this story - seemed to be a bit off.
"Interesting premise but somewhat predictable"
Interesting start, but the predictable romance with happy ending and all neatly tied pieces make this somewhat of stock mystery romance story. The main character comes across as bit hysterical and hence somewhat unbelievable as someone who can investigate. Would not recommend. I think I am done reading Tess Gerritson
"The end of life as we know it! Makes u think"
Really enjoyed listening to this - kept me hooked but the ending was somewhat conventional hence i only gave this 4 stars. The scenario is realistic - this is something that could happen to us and we are left guessing who was responsible for the catastrophe. It also is very telling as to what happens to people when you strip all the accoutrements of the modern civilization away.
"Another winner with Commisario Guido Brunetti"
I really enjoy all of Donna Leone's Commisario Brunetti stories, and the narration by David Colacci is perfect! I can visualize the story and feel as though i am in Venice! Highly recommend
"Arkady Renko is one of my favorite investigators"
I would recommend this book to anyone to read - it has strong plot line and keeps you guessing all the way, and as you listen you can imagine Russia, its culture and the people as if you can seem them in front of you.
Arkady Renko is my favorite character - he is a stoic man, "old" russian to the bone, and he stands by the truth. He is never ruffled or crass, or unnecessarily violent - he is an investigator with principles. And no matter how hard his lot, he makes his way through life without complaining - and he is a very astute investigator.
