"Best in the 3 Pines Series"
Just when you thought the series could not get better, it does! Start with Still Life and continue through this book.
"Great Fun -- especially for dog lovers!"
A clever and creative mystery from a canine perspective. A nice, but not too sweet, story just begging for a sequel!
"Delightful Book"
I never watched the television series but have found the "Murder She Wrote" book series, as a whole, a joy to read. If you get a bit tired of blood and gore but appreciate a good mystery, this is the series for you. "A Slaying In Savannah" continues to be an excellent part of the series with an enjoyable cast of characters, an interesting location and good plot. I would have rated the book higher but the narration did not live up to the quality of the book. Still, this is an ideal book to take on travel.
"A Must Read!!!"
The Secret Life of Bees provides insight into prejudice and how we can overcome it. It is an engaging as well as entertaining. An excellent book to read with your older children and discuss. I am so glad I had an opportunity to read this book. I hope the author writes many, many more.
"Not for the Faint of Heart"
I picked up this book to be enlightened. The first part was a wonderful coming of age story. However, after Pi left India, I found myself engaged in a battle of endurance. Unlike Angela's Ashes, another disturbing novel, the second half of "The Life of Pi" lacked literary merit or insight into the human condition. It seemed to be an attempt to shock readers enough to be considered "artistic" and above criticism using an "Emperor's New Clothes" approach. An idealist,I was certain that the story would improve. I forced myself to finish this disturbing, graphically violent tale. Any character I developed as a result of reading this book was clearly due only to my exercising self discipline not from any insights I received from the author. I think it would have been better to have excercised good judgment and stopped reading. Better yet, I would suggest that potential readers learn from my dreadful experience and pass on this book entirely. Then something good would have come from my ordeal. There are so many good books out there. This is NOT one of them.
