Red Cell follows Kyra Stryker and Jonathan Burke, two outcasts in the Agency who are brought together in the Red Cell, the agency’s out-of-the-box think tank. Stryker is a young and beautiful agent who’s struggling to recover from a job gone bad, while Burke is a straight-laced analyst who’s pissed off all his colleagues. When a raid on Chinese spies in Taiwan ends in a shootout, CIA Director Cooke turns to the Red Cell to figure out why China is ready to invade the island nation without any fear of reprisal.

Meet Victor. He's an assassin - a man with no past and no surname. He lives alone. He operates alone. He's given a job; he takes out the target; he gets paid. He's The Killer. Victor arrives in Paris to perform a standard kill and collect for an anonymous client. He completes it with trademark efficiency - only to find himself in the middle of an ambush and fighting for his life.

If you like extraordinary detail of minutia, particularly arms related, this is the book for you. if you like endless descriptions of battle scenes this is the book for you. If you like plots as complex as TV shows this is the book for you.

What a waste of a talented narrator. I would love to listen to him in other books.

For LAPD homicide cop Harry Bosch - hero, maverick, nighthawk - the body in the drainpipe at Mulholland Dam is more than another anonymous statistic. This one is personal. The dead man, Billy Meadows, was a fellow Vietnam "tunnel rat" who fought side by side with him in a nightmare underground war that brought them to the depths of hell.

The story has so much mundane investigation detail it puts you to sleep. Moved forward with the pace of a snail. May develop, but watching the grass grow held more fascination.

Her Imperial Highness the Grand Duchess Victoria Maria Teresa Inez Smythe-Peterwald, daughter of wealth and power, was raised to do little except be attractive and marry well. Then everything changed - her brother, her father’s favorite and the heir apparent, was killed in battle by Lieutenant Kris Longknife, daughter of the Peterwald’s longtime enemies. Vicky vowed revenge, but her skill set was more suitable for seduction than assassination, and she failed. Angry and disappointed, her father decided she needed military training and forced her to join the Navy.

John Charming isn't your average prince... He comes from a line of Charmings - an illustrious family of dragon slayers, witch-finders and killers dating back to before the fall of Rome. Trained by a modern day version of the Knights Templar, monster hunters who have updated their methods from chain mail and crossbows to Kevlar and shotguns, John Charming was one of the best-until a curse made him one of the abominations the Knights were sworn to hunt.

Good character development, particularly for the two key protagonists. Unique and intriguing environment and characters. First person perspective always better. Flat, simple minded plot. Superb narration with clear distinguishing voices for multiple characters.

Jake Sullivan is a licensed private eye with a seriously hardboiled attitude. He also possesses raw magical talent and the ability to make objects in his vicinity light as a feather or as heavy as depleted uranium, all with a magical thought. It's no wonder the G-men turn to Jake when they need someoneto go after a suspected killer who has been knocking off banks in a magic-enhanced crime spree.

What made the experience of listening to Hard Magic the most enjoyable?

Strong characters, novel re-write of history, unique alternative universe, all the threads pulled together, yet clearly leads to sequels.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Fay was my favorite character because of her strength, thirst for knowledge, growing powers, innocence.

Have you listened to any of Bronson Pinchot’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Pinchot's performance was exceptionally fine with him creating new appropriate voices for each of many characters

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    No

    Any additional comments?

Belabored description of fight scenes that grows tiresome

Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden is Chicago's only openly practicing wizard. He is also dead broke. His vast knowledge and magical skills are unfortunately matched by his talent for making powerful enemies and alienating friends. With little more than his integrity left, he accepts an offer of work from Lt. Karin Murphy of Chicago's Special Investigations Unit. He wants to redeem himself in Murphy's eyes and make enough money to quiet his rumbling stomach.

Would you listen to Fool Moon again? Why?

Yes. Relaxing entertainment after staring at a computer screen all day.

What did you like best about this story?

The characterization of the protagonist, evolving plot, and the imaginative world of magic.

What does James Marsters bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

More vivid picturization of the background.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The dialog is always amusing as is the protagonist's sardonic view of the world.

    Any additional comments?

I find audible books heavy on dialog the most entertaining. The ability of the reader to change voices so the individual characters are more readily recognizable is also a plus. Masters is good, but does not excel at this.
