"Money wasted"
I like Kim Harrison's Hollows series so I thought I would like this. But, I found it tedious to read, therefore, never identified or sympathized with the characters. I gave it two stars instead of one only because I like the author and hope for a better read in number two of this series.
"I loved it!"
I had to listen to the beginning more than once before I could visualize the author's fantasy world, but I am glad I took the time to do that. Once I could visualize the story, it seemed to pick up quickly and I was emotionally invested in the characters. It is an exciting, surprising action fantasy with depth to the characters. Anyone not accustomed to reading fantasy may have a problem with the beginning of the book. But, once the reader gets past the confusing beginning, anyone would enjoy this book.
"Disappointed"
I love this series and have both re-read and re-listened to all the previous books. However,(1) LM had so many story lines going at once, I stayed frustrated with all the interruptions to "peek" in on what's happening with other characters. (2) The two main characters must have had personality transplants because they were unrecognizable from the characters we came to know and love in previous books (3) the editing on the audiobook was awful. There are loooooong pauses and voice changes where , I'm guessing, errors were corrected. There were even a couple of places where ambient sounds were heard.
I have enjoyed the BDB series so much that it is difficult for me to critize anything J. R. Ward writes and I will continue to buy the BDB books. I just think that this time, the book did not live up to the hype.
"Oh yeah!"
Great vampire fantasy world and interesting characters. I think I will like reading this series.
"Worth waiting for!"
Thank goodness Robert Jordan's wife was the person choosing the writer to continue Mr. Jordan's WOT series. I was wary in the beginning, but soon forgot about it and just enjoyed Mr. Sanderson's WOT interpretation! I loved seeing loose ends tied up and clearly saw how the final battle is very close approaching. Also, a big thank you for continuing with Kate Reading and husband Michael Kramer as narrators. I am looking forward to the last two books.
"Good re-introduction to the WOT series."
Good re-introduction to the WOT series. I loved hearing Robert Jordan's wife explain the process of continuing this wonderful series. I am so relieved to know that Kate Reading and her husband Michael Kramer will continue to narrate all of the books in the series. They are the best!
"Glad I read it"
I read all the series about two years ago, but never bought the prequel. When Gathering Storm came out, I bought it along with New Spring. I re-read the whole series starting with New Spring this time. For me, it made the whole series flow better than it did the first time I read WOT. I recommend it to all WOT fans and think new fans will enjoy the WOT series more by starting with New Spring.
"Another good book from Kelley Armstrong"
I like all of the "Women of the Other World"(W.O.W.) series and Clay and Elena are my favorite characters. Ms. Armstrong expanded her W.O.W. universe in "Frostbitten" with supernaturals not seen in her other books. I like everything she writes including her Young Adult series and this book is no exception.
"Another great book!"
I love this series and reading it felt like coming home. These characters are written in such detail and the historical setting is so accurate that it is easy to visulize every scene. I have a lot of money invested in the audio verison of all of these books and I do NOT regret one penny. They are wonderful to revisit and I always look forward to the next one.
