I read this book many years ago, and I was interested to hear it performed by one of the A listers. There are a great many reviews of the book already - it is fantastic and important and chilling. It needs to be read.

Claire Danes, however, did a great job with the narration. I won't say fabulous - I do think that she got a little too 'dramatic' with the pauses and timing now and then - but it was a thoroughly enjoyable (?) performance.

I saw this book at the bookstore and was thrilled to see that it was available on Audible. Honestly, I have both the print and the audible versions, thinking that I was going to go back and forth between them. I was so taken with the performance, however, that I found myself taking extra drives in the car to hear more! Kirby did a fantastic job creating the different characters, and his timing was impeccable.

I am always drawn to things that challenge the status quo, so when I saw that this was a story that painted Santa Claus in a completely new way, I was intrigued. I am glad that I took a chance on this book! Although Krampus is not a new figure, and the author clearly did his research (!), he was presented in a new, almost sympathetic way. While listening to the book, I honestly had to think about who I was rooting for many times. All characters were drawn with complex brush strokes, allowing me to really 'get to know' each one of them along the way.

I have to admit, the story did plunge a little bit into the Stephen King realm for me at times, but I'm not sure that was a bad thing. I think it may have been a necessary addition to the story in terms of tying things all together at the end.

If you like dark tales and looking at the established in a new way, please take a look at this. It will not disappoint!

I had resisted reading this book for the longest time. I tend to stay away from bestsellers because I have found that, many times, my tastes are not the same as the general public's. After seeing this on the 'Great first reads' list, however, I took the plunge. Well, not only did I take the plunge, I kept going deeper and deeper, finding reasons to drive around just so I could listen some more!

Yes, the story is fantastic. It is clear that the author has a closeness to this topic (she grew up in Jackson, during the '70s), and I suspect that much of Skeeter is actually her. It is a work of fiction, but is so well written that it is easy to imagine that it could actually be history.

The performances by the narrators were absolutely amazing! Each character's voice was unique, and each narrator tackled other characters in a way that gave individuality to them. In fact, each performer was so fantastic that I was eager to hear from them all.

By the way, if you're thinking that you don't need to read the book because you saw the movie? Well, let's just say there are enough differences that you will find this a new experience!

I purchased this book purely on the recommendations of the other reviewers, and it was definitely worth it! I completely understand how it is impossible to really say anything about it without giving the story away, but it was a fantastically fun trip! The performance was absolutely fantastic as well. The mention of others regarding his prowess with accents was not unfounded. I definitely felt like I was hearing completely different characters, each with their own voice.

This is a book that is worth the read. Great literature? No, but sometimes you just need to read to have fun!
