He doesn't remember the beautiful female, much less wedding--or bedding--her. But he wants to...almost as much as he wants her.

Merry Gentry pretends to be human. She moved to Los Angeles and began working as a private investigator at Grey's Detective Agency. But all of this is just a disguise; in fact she is a princess of faerie, her real name is Meredith Nic Essus, and she had to flee the Dark Court of Faerie because of attempts on her life. In order to inherit her rightful crown, Merry needed to conceive an heir, a notoriously difficult task for the slow-reproducing Fey. In the 2009 novel Divine Misdemeanors, Merry had finally achieved that goal - and fans have been kept waiting all this time to find out what happens!

What would have made A Shiver of Light better?

If Hamilton gave a damn. It seems as though she just wrote the book to kill time. Judging from her blog I believe she lost interest in this series and this book proved it. Maybe she had a contractual obligation to write this book?

What could Laurell K. Hamilton have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Give it a plot or not write it. She should have simply "not bothered" I wasted my time and credit.

How could the performance have been better?

The narrator seemed confused as to who had what accent. Even Claudia Black with her accent gave Merry an American accent, Charlotte Hill had Merry sounding Irish or Scottish (hell or both!)

She made Ivy sound like a leprechaun or demi fey! She pronounced it as Evie once then pronounced it as Ivy all in the same sentence/paragraph!

What character would you cut from A Shiver of Light?

Laurell K. Hamilton and Charlotte Hill lol.

I could have done without the Hardcore Bromance (shy glances, crying and holding hands)...

    Any additional comments?

I understand the need for explaining certain things but it just seemed repetitive. At first things were repeated from the other books reminding us of some of the characters backgrounds then it seemed as though Merry thoughts were being repeated several times. There was no story line just some brief situations. It's almost as though this book wasn't written by Laurell K. Hamilton. AND then she has the nerve to leave the possibility open for another book. The birth of the babies was a summary and It ended with a summary. Blah

In a futuristic world nearly destroyed by religious extremists, Justin March lives in exile after failing in his job as an investigator of religious groups and supernatural claims. But Justin is given a second chance when Mae Koskinen comes to bring him back to the Republic of United North America (RUNA). Raised in an aristocratic caste, Mae is now a member of the military's most elite and terrifying tier, a soldier with enhanced reflexes and skills. Not bad, but I'm accustomed to Narrator Emily Shaffer's voice performing as teenage characters where as in this book the characters are in their mid to late twenties. The character of Mae (in my opinion) should sound a bit older and more mature.

The Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter backlist lights up the night. In her eighth adventure, Anita Blake can't turn her back on a former lover during the full moon. Especially since he's behind bars - and he's a werewolf.

Vicki says: "Loved book - audio is ok"

    Overall

With every book I listen to Anita gets more and more hypocritical! It's painful! I find myself yelling and my iPhone as if it's Anita "shut up!!!" I am interested in the story but I don't know if I can tolerate Anita! One minute she's like "she wouldn't feel anything if she kills someone or something the next minute she's vomiting and upset that one of the werewolves killed someone!!! Can you say HYPOCRITE!!! I know people are complicated and she's a fictional character but I'm listening to these Anita Blake books and Im getting tired of her and her personality! HYPOCRITE!!! LOL

Also you see some similarities in Asher and Reese (from the Merideth Gentry series)

I dunno I'm getting bored with this series and I'm only on book 8 of 19 :-/

I love the story but the narrator was irritating to listen to!!! I mean it's annoying enough that Rose talks out of her butt though out half the story on top of that we had to listen to Khristine Hvam yap, whine and bitch urgh ANNOYING!!! I'm glad to see there's a new narrator for both books 4 & 5!!! Yay!!! I'm listening it to now and she seems much better and now that Rose is 18 this narrator's voice gives Rose a more mature voice.... THANK YOU!!!!!

The stranger silently summoned her from across the continents, across the seas. He whispered of eternal torment, of endless hunger, of dark, dangerous desires.
