After hearing this performance of the original I was struck by it's darkness. More Halloween than Christmas. Anyone who loves this story will enjoy the contrast between this and the modern day take.

I loved Lincoln and I love this! Doris Kearns Goodwin has a way of making history more interesting than I ever thought it could be. The book weaves facts and history with insight into Eleanor and FDR as human beings with desires and flaws. The WW2 details are incredible. This book will alter your perspective on the state of the world.

William Kent Krueger is the award-winning author of the popular Cork O’Connor mysteries. In Purgatory Ridge, Krueger crafts a riveting tale which has ex-sheriff O’Connor on the case after a heated town debate turns deadly. The local Anishinaabe Indian tribe is furious to discover that Karl Lindstrom’s lumber mill is after a grove of trees sacred to tribal lore. So when the mill gets bombed, killing a man, the tribe is blamed. But O’Connor has a different theory.

I have exhausted all the Michael Connelly and James Patterson inventory and my brother recommended this series. I love it for the same reason I love Connelly and Patterson-it is entertaining, pulls you in and passes the time with familiar characters and great storytelling. Krueger's books have the added perk of learning tid bits about the Boundary Waters.

Why we think it’s a great listen: It’s a story that most people know, told here in an unforgettable way – an audio masterpiece that rivals the best thrillers, thanks to Capote genre-defining words and Brick’s subtle but powerful characterizations. On November 15, 1959, in the small town of Holcomb, Kansas, four members of the Clutter family were savagely murdered by blasts from a shotgun held a few inches from their faces. There was no apparent motive for the crime, and there were almost no clues.

    Story

To say the story is a bit lacking or moves to slowly is not a judgement on Capote as this is an intriguing account of real life events. He is telling the story, he didn't create the story. This story serves as a strange window into disturbing minds.

In L.A., Cassie Black is another beautiful woman in a Porsche: except Cassie just did six years in prison and still has "outlaw juice" flowing in her veins. Now Cassie is returning to her old profession, taking down a money man in Vegas. But the perfect heist goes very wrong, and suddenly Cassie is on the run - with a near-psychotic Vegas "fixer" killing everyone who knew about the job.

I love Connelly's work because it is always easy to read, the characters are easy to learn and the time flies by. I often listen while driving or running and I can always count on a Connelly book to hold my interest and entertain. Void Moon certainly does this.

Why we think it’s a great listen: A performance so poignant, we gave Bronson Pinchot (yes, Balki from Perfect Strangers) our inaugural Narrator of the Year award.... In the monsoon season of 1968-69 at a fire support base called Matterhorn, located in the remote mountains of Vietnam, a young and ambitious Marine lieutenant wants to command a company to further his civilian political ambitions. But two people stand in his way.

From the celebrated author of The Secret Life of Bees, a magnificent novel about two unforgettable American women. Writing at the height of her narrative and imaginative gifts, Sue Monk Kidd presents a masterpiece of hope, daring, the quest for freedom, and the desire to have a voice in the world - and it is now the newest Oprah’s Book Club 2.0 selection. Hetty “Handful” Grimke, an urban slave in early nineteenth century Charleston, yearns for life beyond the suffocating walls that enclose her within the wealthy Grimke household. The Grimke’s daughter, Sarah, has known from an early age she is meant to do something large in the world, but she is hemmed in by the limits imposed on women.

I loved Kidd's earlier book "The Secret Life of Bees" and picked this book up based on that. I am happy to say it did not disappoint. Historical fiction at its finest. A beautiful story as told by two girls from very different backgrounds. This story is one that will stick with me.

Lisbeth Salander—the heart of Larsson’s two previous novels—lies in critical condition, a bullet wound to her head, in the intensive care unit of a Swedish city hospital. She’s fighting for her life in more ways than one: if and when she recovers, she’ll be taken back to Stockholm to stand trial for three murders. With the help of her friend, journalist Mikael Blomkvist, she will not only have to prove her innocence, but also identify and denounce those in authority.

    Story

After finishing the trilogy with this book I actually felt sad. Sad to know there was no more to the story of Lisbeth Salander because there was so much more to tell and so much more that I, as a reader, long to know. The fact that I immediately wanted more is a testament to how good this trilogy is. Stieg Larsson was a wonderful and unique story teller, it is tragic that he did not live to see the success and joy his books have brought to so many. I hope his family can figure out a way to come to terms with one another and release the rest of his works. If you are a fan of the "Girl" books, this will not disappoint. If you haven't read any, pick up the first one and prepare for a great series.

On May 18, 1860, William H. Seward, Salmon P. Chase, Edward Bates, and Abraham Lincoln waited in their hometowns for the results from the Republican National Convention in Chicago. When Lincoln emerged as the victor, his rivals were dismayed and angry. Throughout the turbulent 1850s, each had energetically sought the presidency as the conflict over slavery was leading inexorably to secession and civil war.

To say I loved this book would be an understatement. I enjoy history but by no means consider myself a student of history, but this story awoke in me an intense interest in this period of our country's history and the history of the office of the President. This account of the life of Lincoln has unlocked for me a love of history I did not know existed. Incredible man, incredible life, incredible circumstances and Doris Kearns Goodwin captures it all. Don't be scared off by the length of the book, it will fly by. Do it!

I loved his other books and couldn't imagine how this one would live up to the others but it does. As with all his stories, it takes a bit to learn and be involved with the characters but by the mid point of the book you are fully involved and yearning for a happy ending for them all. As an added bonus I feel like it provides insight into the history of a culture-an added bonus that I appreciate. A must for any Hosseini fan.
