Fascinating account of fragrance and the path from concept to the shelf. Hearing about the creation of a Hermes perfume by Jean-Claude Ellena was delightful. However, as mentioned in the previous review, the narrator made frequent errors in French pronunciation glaringly obvious even to one who has only had French in school. These errors distracted greatly from the listening experience--like fingernails on old-fashioned blackboard--and they occured almost every time he narrated anything in French. I finally gave up listening about half way through and got the book to read. Compare to Julia Child's and Marcella Hazan's recent biographies which contains a lot of, respectively, French and Italian, and were both pleasures to hear. I hope when Audible chooses future narrators, it will pay more attention to the narrator's fluency in whatever foreign language the book includes.
Only if my friend were as immersed in Watergate as I have been.
The incredible level of detail. And, of course, Joe Barrett's narration.
My favorite narrator, and his Nixon is spot on. He was also the narrator for Thomas Mallon's Watergate: A Novel. and did his usual superb job.
Who could listen for 22 hours? No, it is better in smaller chunks.
To a Watergate aficionado, this book is a diamond mine!
Yes. One of the most enjoyable audiobook's I've heard.
Dr. Pfaltzgraf. The accent was wonderfully done.
All the characters get an extra dimension with his reading. Particularly liked Art Oveson, Roscoe, Dr. Pfaltzgraf, and Sheriff Cannon.
Parley Tanner's car going down the embankment.
Multicultural literary entertainment
No other book is like it.
Running a deli is harder than it looks. And I loved hearing about George Plimpton. Bronson Pinchot's rendering of the upper class New York accent was priceless.
This book made me want to stay in the car and keep listening even after arriving home! Characters are fleshed-out and the heroine is admirable despite events that threaten her idealistic yet somehow practical approach to motherhood, medicine, and her marriage. She keeps doing the right thing, most of the time. Narration is excellent.
I lucked into this story. It is absolutely fascinating. If you like dry British humor you will be in heaven. One of the best audiobooks I've heard.
