"A disappointing version"
Although "Great Expectations" is an inteligent, captivating and witty peace of work, i am afraid i did not enjoy this audio book narrated by Hugh Laurie.
I should point out, that this version is a brief edited version which as i realised while listening -does not include the entire script.
Some chapter's were more inclusive than others, and included the Dicken's witt and complexity -
other episodes seemed to have been edited unwisely - and left information gaps and did not feel like a Dickens creation.
In addition, as much as i admire Hugh Laurie as an charismatic inteligent actor, his narration was pretty bad - all female voices were at the same tone, some sections were exagarated - unexpected pauses.
I am afraid i would have to double check in the future that i am not purchasing an edited\shortened version.
