In Broken Harbor, all but one member of the Spain family lies dead, and it’s up to Mick “Scorcher” Kennedy to find out why. Mick must piece together why their house is full of cameras pointed at holes in the walls and how a nighttime intruder bypassed all the locks. Meanwhile, the town of Broken Harbor holds something else for Mick: disturbing memories of a childhood summer gone terribly wrong.

    Story

I really tried this book but it could not hold my attention. Tana belabored evidence to the point of nauseous. A family is found dead. So begans the investigation with the assumption of it had to be the father. When the mother is the only survivor then the mother was the killer. The police don’t work the clues as much as fit the clues to the usual assumptions. That takes 5 of the 7.5 hours of the book first book. The police then belabors (completing book 1 and 4 hours of book 2) reasons for hole in the wall.

As a mystery enthusiast, I know details tell the story but enough is enough. There were hours of speculation of possible animals who would cause a person in to smash a hole in the wall. In book 2 and still discussion with the hole and mother as the murder

When you read one of Tana books don’t expect fast cars, jumping on/off buildings, or gun shots. Her is detective leg work via discussions while the officers are driving around the British country side. Throw in a little bit of office tension and you have a mystery, which will put you to sleep.

I am a huge fan of Nero Wolf who under no circumstances will leave his home or violate his routines in order to facilitate an investigation, yet there is action and attitude. This book, Broken Harbor lacked even the insufferable ego of a main character. So for me I will have to make another choice next time… and it won’t be a Tana French book.

This was one of the slowest and confusing rewrite of the Garden of Eden ever. Redmerski did not know what religious symbolism to use so he used everything and included the zodiac.
It became so confusing and bogged down that it was an effort to finish it. I kept reading hoping that it would get better. It never did.

When LA’s vampires, witches, and werewolves make a mess, they call Scarlett Bernard to clean it up. Her ability as a null erases all magical traces from anything — or anyone — that comes within ten feet of her, and keeps humans in the dark about the city’s paranormal activity. One night when she’s called to a grisly crime scene, Scarlett is spied by the all-too-human LAPD cop Jesse Cruz, who strikes up a deal with her: he’ll keep quiet about the supernatural underworld if she helps him crack the case. She agrees, but the city’s chief vampire, Dash, starts to suspect Scarlett is behind the murders and will reveal all she knows of his shadowy empire. Now it’ll take more than Scarlett’s unique abilities to clear her name, keep the underworld underground, and track down the real killer.

This is a fresh take on an urban fantasy. The plot is unique and well written. The main character is intelligent and insightful.

She is a null. When supernatural person is within in a certain distance to her, their abilities do not work. Ironically, she is their clean up person when they have created a mess (dead bodies) that would alert humans to their presence.

When she arrives late to a horrific crime, the police have already been alerted and of course a police man discovers supernatural beings.

Since she was not able to “clean up” the situation becomes all her fault. Now with the clock ticking on her life to become the fall guy, it is her responsible to discover who made the mess.
Sure she can nullify supernatural powers but she is human, fragile, and never has her taser when she needs it.

For centuries, the werewolves of Toronto have managed to live in peace and tranquility, hidden quietly away on their London, Ontario farm. But now, someone has learned their secret - and is systematically massacring this ancient race. The only one they can turn to is Henry Fitzroy, Toronto-based vampire and writer of bodice rippers. Forced to hide from the light of day, Henry can’t hunt the killer alone so he turns to Vicki Nelson for help.

    Story

Urban supernatural mystery thriller about a partially blind detective and a vampire romance author. It is a series which can be read as a s stand alone without t a lot of the repetitive background. Henry Fitzroy is the illegitimate son of Henry the VIII and Vicki is a former Toronto, Ontario police detective. She was great at her job and loved her job. If is was not for the retinosa pigmentosa. She is going blind; she has lost her night vision and most of her peripheral vision.

With her night vision disability and Henry's day light disability they make the perfect detective team. Supernatural creatures are not the norm in Toronto so there is a learning / teaching curve between the vampire and detective. There is romantic tension between Henry, Vicki and Mike Celluci; Vicki's former police partner and sometime lover.

When Henry friends (wearwolves) need some detective skills, Henry gets Vicki to help out. The Blood Trail series formula is a mystery (initiated by one of the main characters), introduction of a supernatural event / character and rivalry between the guys over Vicki and a sexual triss to add spice.

When a warlock is murdered and Dulcie was the last person to see him alive, she must uncover the truth before she’s either deported back to the Netherworld, or she becomes the next victim. This is an entertaining urban fantasy with a headstrong, hardworking police officer. Dulcie polices the Netherworld with tenacity of a pit bull. Her job throws her into dangerous situations, but she is trained for those. It is the attraction to her boss, a warlock, which throws her life in disarray.
A very light enjoyable comedy for pleasure listening.

Iris Scanlon, Half-Moon Hollow's only daytime vampire concierge, knows more about the undead than she'd like. Running all their daylight errands - from letting in the plumber to picking up some chilled O neg - gives her a look at the not-so-glamorous side of vampire life. Her rules are strict; relationships with vamps are strictly business, not friendship - and certainly not anything else. But then she finds her newest client, Cal, poisoned on his kitchen floor, and only Iris can help.

    Story

Molly Harper has created a quaint, funny, friendly supernaturals community. When supernatural people "came out" the people of the community realize there was an
opportunity to support the lifestyle required for supernaturals. Supermarkets stocked an assortment of blood types so vampires can pick up their favorite blood type at the local store. Some people, like Iris added a personal touch to her service to the supernatural
    community.

Iris Scanlon, a resident of Half Moon, has an exclusive concierge service which caters to vampires. Iris supports her and her sister financial obligations but is still just make ends meet. Iris is an intelligent, independent woman who lives by a set of rules to reduce the possible occupational hazardous.

With all her precautions, Iris is still faced with a dilemma. Take her "work" home, breaking on of her rules take the opportunity to make extra enough money to get her out of debt.

Molly Harper female characters are women who are opinionated, funny, and headstrong. They demand respect for their intelligence, and totally unaware of their inner beauty and physical beauty.
They are woman and stories that I enjoy reading about without a lot of profanity or explicitly sex. It is an enjoyable supernatural world, read it and enjoy.

Caren Gray manages Belle Vie, a sprawling antebellum plantation that sits between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, where the past and the present coexist uneasily. The estate's owners have turned the place into an eerie tourist attraction, complete with full-dress re-enactments and carefully restored slave quarters. Kaylin spent a lot of the beginning on the book talking about how awful her past in Barren was, but when it all came down to it, most of the the people around her knew most of her past and didn't care. So, I had some trouble figuring out why Kaylin made such a big deal about all of that. I do not like flash backs but here there was a lot of information about Kaylin.

There’s an anomaly in the heart of fiefs and Kaylin is sent to investigate, accompanied by Severn and Tiamaris The story goes along okay until they enter the Tower and it gets confusing and bogged down with how a Barrani becomes a fief lord.

I liked that the tower has an avatar but confused why and how it happened. How / what happened to the Old Ones and the connection to lllian. Lord Tiameris found a horde, yeppie.

How she join the Hawks and her relationship with them was a perfect fit with the series and characters. It made a certain sort of sense why the dynamic in the Hawk is the way it is when it comes to Kaylin.

This is not a stand alone series. To understand the nuances between the personalities, you must read Zombie 1 - 4. So you have read Z1 - 4, well even a good thing can get a little tired. Most of the series is filled with the Talbot humor. At this point it has gotten, the Talbot banter, "What's the plan Mike, I don't know. I am making it up as I go along" is tired.
The love between a husband and wife and bond of friendship means everyone travels together even when impractical. And Tomas, well I was disappointed when they reunited him with his sister and it does not get better. Tomas' character lent a unique aspect and made it more believable (if a vampire story can have believability) but there is very little of him in this book.
Much of the book is spent with Mike doing his internal monologue providing you flashbacks. What really burned my underwear.... cliff hanger. Yes, it ended in a cliff hanger.

Mark, you know it is alright to end a series. It is better to end on a high note than to see your fans drop off like flyes.

Hoping that Mark will end the series, I will listen to the 6th Zombie.
