"adds another dimension"
This is one of the books that i have reread; i've read it three times and think it is marvelous. Listening adds another dimension to the story - the scene between Ivan and the Devil that takes place in the middle of the night has always mystified me, hearing it clarified the conversation so plainly that i wondered why i had a problem with it earlier. Personally, i think it is one of the most perfect novels i have read.
"Disappointing, but still excellent."
the book was disappointing because i expected more from McCarthy. It is most excellent writing, and the character is three-dimensional. He was, nevertheless, hard to like and to feel involved with.
Time will show me if he sticks in my head like the characters of "all the pretty horses" and many of the other books he has written, in which case i would have to change my opinion of this book. The visual pictures produced by the story may be unforgettable; they are already jumping up at me.
i am listening to Endurance.
never boring
probably not
"Too many words, repetitions, poorly written"
i nearly didn't make it to the end of this long, tedious, boring book.
Now i realize that i heard the first book abridged, by accident, so they must have cut out a lot of the filler. Don't waste your time on this.
"marvelous original"
Too bad that Disney had to destroy this wonderful classic. Baloo and Bagheera are sages, teachers, wise ones; Disney made clowns. Mother wolf confronting Sh?re Khan at the mouth of her den remains untouched by the passing years, indeed, the whole story has not aged, although the Dearly Beloved manner of telling it probably has.
"Good story poorly written"
The story was good enough to keep me listening, in spite of the maudlin tone of voice of the reader and the continual repetition of the age of the "boys", how heroic they were, how serious and quiet the author's father was, etc. OF COURSE THEY WERE HEROIC, CLEARLY A SUPERHUMAN EFFORT WAS GOING ON. i didn't need to be told it every five minutes. i consider this book to be very poorly written. It is A TERRIFIC STORY, i only wish that the editor had done his job and toned down the pathetic tone that the writer has sprinkled all through his book.
"Living Beckett"
Hearing these books ( i read them several years ago) brought them to life and gave them a whole other dimension. Personally i think they are marvelous, full of humor and philosophy. I wish Audible had more Beckett- MORE, MORE please.
