    Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

    The book yes, but the audio book by Coster No. Coster does not capture the essential action of the series, and sounds as if he is reading un-enthusiastically from his high-sided armchair


    Who was your favorite character and why?

    Hornblower-no reason to dwell on that. The story is good


    What didn’t you like about Nicolas Coster’s performance?

    Boring boring with too much pompous accents from the crew in the lower deck. His accents just do not do it for me-they are so much the upper crust English stuffy accents and they are applied lazily and un-enthusisatically. I am going to avoid ever buying anything with Costers name on from now on!!I am tempted to revert back to reading the book myself!

    I found this story almost hard to take. I could not put the book down as the story was so fascinating, yet at times I was concerned to carry on lest something even more severe should happen to Louis! I found it hard to believe that the story-line was true and based on fact, but the research shows it to be so. A real wake up call to us all to learn to get along with one another, so that this sort of thing never happens again! An absolutely excellent book and very well read by Edward Herrman. If you like WW2 history stuff then do not miss this!

    Would you consider the audio edition of The Breaking Wave to be better than the print version?

    Much better! The only issue with Tull is his lack of knowledge of English names-Lymington is not "lime-inton" but lim-ington-otherwise he is good!


    What was one of the most memorable moments of The Breaking Wave?

    When Alan discovers the dead girl-Janet- is Bill's(his brother) girlfriend


    Which scene was your favorite?

    When Janet manages to outshoot the whole navy!


    Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Absolutely if there was time enough!

    This book is a great-if sad-read! All the Shutes are excellent stories with little violence and no sex-try them all "Town like Alice" On the Beach, Round the bend etc-I think there are 16 or 17 in all

    Would you listen to Death to the French again? Why?

    This is a great thrilling adventure story told carefully from the author of the Hornblower series. Forester tells great stories and it is hard to miss with any of his books-and he has written more than just Hornblower! Rodska is a good narrator and overall the book was most enjoyable. The story centers around rifleman Dodd and his adventures behind enemy lines.


    What was one of the most memorable moments of Death to the French?

    When Dodd finds peace in the Portuguese hill village


    Which character – as performed by Christian Rodska – was your favorite?

    Rifleman Dodd of course! His persistance and loyalty are admirable


    Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    If one had time for this...yes

    This book ranks very high on my list as just a very good story

    Well when Tom returns to the UK and manages to buy a larger plane each time-that is impressive! While Connie is so religous about his maintenance...

    No, but this one is excellent

    this is a story which grips and fascinates, from a master story teller!
    Everyone should be reading Nevil Shute if they want a good satisfying-and long-read!
