"Production Values Off Here"
I purchased this because it part of the Soho Crime Press catalog and I usually enjoy international stories. The story was a bit confusing and was not helped by what were obvious production glitches. Once would have been ok but they kept happening, as if the editors forgot to delete mistakes of narrator.
"Starts with a bang, carries on then fizzes"
The performance was wonderful. I was engaged and eager throughout entire listen. I really enjoyed the building of community in the first 3/4 of book. I cared about the characters and their macinations. Unfortunately, the story spiralled out of control in terms of believability in the last hour or so, as if the writer ran out of speed and wanted to get something down. It is definitely worth a listen though I would have appreciated a better ending.
"Kill this book: it droned on and on"
Sure, there's some action in the book. Definitely. And hi-tech gear, and explosions. But not enough to make me care about the characters, especially when they are doing pretty outrageous stuff. Not sure what I expected, but it did not live up to all the rave reviews it received.
"Still A Fan"
While this book did not move with the same quickness as the first three, I am still quite a fan of the series. I think Mr Martin is doing something a bit different or expected with the storyline and the characters. I have read many reviews from disappointed readers of the book and do not agree that the book is not up to par with the previous ones. I think it is simply different. Mr Martin has gotten us very used to a thrill ride, this one is a bit slower though no less useful if we want real characters. I look forward to listening to the fifth installation as well as those to follow.
"Slow start though fully delivers Sanderson style"
As usual, Brandon Sanderson fully exceeded my expectations for storytelling. Though it took me a little while to get ignited to the story, once I did I was again intrigued and delighted. I want to know these characters more and want to explore their world with more depth. He weaves a pretty excellent environment worthy of my listening time. The Way of Kings, like the Mistborn series, steeped as it is in theology, is masterfully done and thought provoking. I await the second book here on Audible...
"Disppointed"
I am a pretty big fan of this series. Unfortunately, I was disappointed in this one, first time since I found Reacher in my local library. Performance was good as usual but the story felt flat, like it never really got going and when it did, mid-way through it couldn't keep pace with itself. The ending was so anti-climatic that I actually believe it was over. Maybe next book will prove better. Also, not looking forward to Tom Cruise as Reacher in the theatres.
"Fresh, Funny, Fast"
This book was refreshing from start to finish. The performance superb, story fun and easy to listen to. Glad I read it. Would love to have more from the author, continuation of the Rook perhaps...
"A Great Community in these stories"
I wandered into Louise Penny by accident of adventure and have not looked back since. I found in her stories an exquisite writer who paints fleshly characters that have evolved continually over the series. I want to move to Three Pines, regardless of the murder rate. I am glad Ms Penny decided to continue the series. I loved the questions she weaves through the narratives: here she asks about the play of light in life, in a painting that really offers food for thought. The mysteries are also wonderful. The narrator has never failed to deliver an excellent performance either. Treat yourself to this book.
"Couldn't stop listening"
Really liked this book. I appreciated the quality of the reader and the narrative; the pace of the story- both reading and narrative; as well as the way it dealt with class issues among the characters.
"I'm Sure I've read this someplace before"
When I got to the end of this book (luckily it was so short), I felt extremely ripped off. I was such an uneventful story and cliche to boot. The only thing that was weird about these stories was how boring they were in the end.
