I have Douglas's narration of the Book which is a joy - and Now I Have Stephen Fry's which polishes the Diamond.

First - Rest assured this is a just a reissue of the original - Not a book of the Film. The Film was Ok but not nearly true enough to its sources (Radio Play, Book, TV series - in that order) - This book brings the voice of Fry - who is an excellent narrator (and a close friend of DNA's) into the mix. He brings more life to the book than Douglas did (Douglas was a great speaker - but when it comes to narrating entire books his performance has high and lows) and I recommend this to all. If you havn't heard the story before - First buy the radio series then go back to the books. Buy Fry's narration then go to Douglas' - you will get the best experience that way.

What is it about The Hitch Hikers Guide?

There are very few Brits who seem to review here but as someone who has grown with HHTGH since the Original Radio series at the end of the 70's(The first and still best version in my opinion), read the books, seen the TV Series (Yes my american friends - It was a TV series too - six episodes back in 1981 in the UK) and is now warming up for the new movie in May 05 (See it !!) I felt I should say something given one or two negitive coments i've read here.

Adams died premeturly a couple of years back and the world is a sadder place. The first hitch hikers guide book captures his sparkle at its best and this version allows DNA to read it himself as it should be read.

Some wont get it. The humour is very british and very understated. However if you do you will laugh until you cry.

Which is all DNA wanted.

Arthur Dent is the ultimate English gent out of his depth in an alien place and he bumbles his way through it all vainly searching for a good cup of tea aided by a man named Ford Prefect. Will he make it? Will he find tea or at least a small peice of fairy cake? Does it cosmically speaking matter ? Read it and see.

RIP Douglas - you are missed. I cant even look at a Mac without thinking of you.
