I was first exposed to Ms. Nichols via 'The Secret' and was taken by her sincerity and openness in discussing her own issues - not an easy task when it could be exposed to an audience of millions. Even though I grew up in as contrasting circumstances as you could find: a male in rural Pennsylvania in the 60's, many of her trials felt very real and personal to me. I listened to her book while driving cross-country to start a new career, and even the title 'No Matter What!' lent much needed emotional and self-confidence support. I really look forward to more life lessons from someone who really has had a life full of challenges and lessons and has a great skill in sharing them with her audience.
The author has that 'happy school-marm' quality to her voice which has turned off a few reviewers apparently, but I found it easy to listen to and full of well thought out concepts. While many of her ideas seem fairly obvious, the fact that they all give you the sense of 'oh yeah, that's a good one too!' should tell you that the value is the collection of these pearls in one place as much as the content itself. I've already used several of these ideas and have had some pretty memorable conversations. I think one of the values of this book is it gives you ideas on how to interact productively with almost anyone. Thankfully, most of us have the option of just giving up on a conversation that hits the point of diminishing returns. For those that don't have that option, keep a quick reference of the tools in the book handy so you don't draw a blank at a crucial moment.
