"Couldn't finish for several reasons"
I have read many Nora Roberts books and enjoyed them for the most part; however, this book was so slow-moving, the male lead not likeable, the romance forced, and the narrator had an irritating staccato-type speech pattern that I couldn't listen to anymore. I gave it 2 stars because I love dogs and the training tips were fun, but not enough to finish the book.
"Not the Lisa Kleypas I have enjoyed over the years"
This book just left me flat. The narration was OK but Lisa Kleypas has written so much better. I adore her historicals but even her contemporaries Blue Eyed Devil and Smooth Talking Stranger are 2 of my favorites. It's like she has lost her edge and is turning sappy.
"First of the Jack Reacher series"
I'm usually more of a romantic suspense person but I highly enjoyed this book. It kept my interest and I had a hard time turning it off. My husband was reading the book while I was listening to the audiobook which made it more fun. I'll be looking for more in this series.
"Very Enjoyable"
Immediately got the next book in the trilogy. One of the better romances I have listened to recently. Good commute listen.
"Excellent suspense. Kept me on the edge of my seat"
My first by this author and not my last . Excellent suspense and not easy to figure out the "bad guy". Highly recommended.
"Tortured hero, Nurturing heroine"
I enjoyed listening to this book. The narrator's voice seemed a little shrill at first but I had been listening to a narrator with a much lower voice before this book. The story seemed a bit disjointed but overall enjoyable.
"Funny. Reminded me of "Weekend at Bernie's""
Silly but enjoyable just the same. Nasty husband dies. Heroine and her sisters try to cover it up so they won't have to go into mourning because the sisters need to marry rich husbands quickly to pay off father's gaming debts. Identical twin brother who is the real earl shows up although he's supposed to be dead. The dead body gets moved around. Fun listen.
"Enjoyable Romance"
I always love Rosalyn Landor's narrations. This book was a fun romance with plucky heroine and hero who thinks he's not worthy. The hero and heroine were childhood friends. He loses his fortune gambling, she's a spinster, he's bent on revenge, they marry so he can regain part of his inheritance, they have misunderstandings, get to know each other again, and they have a happily ever after. Enjoyable listen for commute.
"Excellent read"
Loved the story and historical references, long and involved but went very fast because the story is so interesting. The narrator could not have been better. She did a wonderful job of character differentiation. You absolutely knew who was speaking which can be a problem with some narrators. Give it a try. The sequel Shadow of Night is even better, but you need to listen to this one first or you will be too confused.
"Can't wait for Book # 3"
I loved A Discovery of Witches, and Shadow of Night was even better. The narrator, Jennifer Ikeda, is superb and really differentiates the multiple character voices. The story is so involving with a lot of history thrown in that I was stunned when I finished it. It really made the time fly. Although long, I wish it could have gone on longer. The followup can't come soon enough!
