Summer, 1954. U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels has come to Shutter Island, home of Ashecliffe Hospital for the criminally insane. Along with his partner, Chuck Aule, he sets out to find an escaped patient, a murderess named Rachel Solando, as a hurricane bears down upon them.

But nothing at Ashecliffe Hospital is what it seems. Is he there to find a missing patient? Or has he been sent to look into rumors of Ashecliffe's radical approach to psychiatry?

Barry says: "Outstanding psychological thriller set in the 50s"
    "WOW! A great find....finally!"

Read the book before you see the movie!! Actually.... skip the movie! LOVED this book! I've read / listened to over 100+ books in the past 2 years and have never written a review. I just had to on this one. The narrator was ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! Every character had a distinct voice and in a few places he had to switch back and forth at lightening speed....and he did! Excellent job on his part. Hats off! The story was as good as the story teller.Something interesting happened quite often and I found myself trying to figure things out too...right along with the main character.
If twists and turns are what you like, get this book. Something different from soooo many others. I've been getting very bored with the same old plots and storylines and this was refreshing. It really was enjoyable and I'm sure you wont be disappointed.

  • The Scarlet Lion

    • UNABRIDGED (17 hrs and 57 mins)
    • By Elizabeth Chadwick
    • Narrated By Christopher Scott

The prowess and loyalty of the great knight William Marshal have been rewarded by the hand in marriage of Isabelle de Clare. William has weathered the difficult years of King Richard's absence on crusade and is currently serving him on campaign in Normandy. But the stability William and Isabelle have enjoyed comes crashing down as Richard dies and his brother John becomes king. Rebellion stirs throughout the Angevin domains, and William and Isabelle distance themselves in Ireland.

    A. J. McConachie says: "Wonderful/Fantastic Listen"
    "JUST GREAT !"

With well over 200 audiobooks in my listening past, this is only the 2nd time I've written a review. This was such a treat. Best off reading the proir William Marshall books before this one to appreciate the story to its fullest but still a wonderful, engrossing, and delightful book. Plenty of history to appreciate in a fictional story and now one of my favorites. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did. I doubt you'll be disappointed.

  • The Passage: The Passage Trilogy, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (36 hrs and 52 mins)
    • By Justin Cronin
    • Narrated By Scott Brick, Adenrele Ojo, Abby Craden

First, the unthinkable: a security breach at a secret U.S. government facility unleashes the monstrous product of a chilling military experiment. Then, the unspeakable: a night of chaos and carnage gives way to sunrise on a nation, and ultimately a world, forever altered. All that remains for the stunned survivors is the long fight ahead and a future ruled by fear—of darkness, of death, of a fate far worse.

This is only the 2nd time I've written a review out of hundreds of books I've listened to. Get this book, if you have any hesitation at all. Engrossing, mysterious, romantic, thrilling, cant-put-down/shut off audiobook. Don't let the "vampire story" mentioned in other reviews misguide you because it is not that kind of story. Nothing like other books such as the "Twilight" series, but yes there are beings that have supernatural abilities and similarities to vampires in this story. You'll be gripped, no question about it. Also, when I saw that Scott Brick was the narrator, I thought to myself "how much of Scott can I handle?" because, after all, it is a 5-part audiobook. I do like him in other audiobooks but I thought this was going to be a bit too much. Fortunately, the plot carries him just fine and I found myself LISTENING TO THE STORY as opposed to just his voice. I was waiting to see what would happen next. Do yourself a favor and download, sit back, and listen to THE PASSAGE. You wont be disappointed.
