I had never heard of this author or the narrator. What a pleasant surprise this book was. As with any new story it took me a few minutes to figure out what was happening. The action started and I was hooked. The narrator did a great job with the different character and I didn't have any problem knowing who was talking. The overall story was very good and the author kept things moving. I look forward to the next adventure.
I have read a few books by Tracy Hickman and this was the hardest book to listen to that he has written. While I won't give up on Tracy, this one didn't work at all. The narration didn't help either.
This is one that I would like a refund for. I hate thinking that I've waisted a credit on something this bad.
The story failed to capture my imagination and the narration did nothing to invoke any emotional response. It was so difficult to listen to I turned it off after I gave it a little over 3 hours to pull me in. I don't like to give bad reviews of any of the audio books that I've listened to and I have always finished the entire book before I decide wether I liked it or not. Not this time. I do not think I will purchase another audio book by this author.
The story was convoluted and seemed to wander without seeming to go anywhere. The narration was like listening to a bad old gangster movie. Don't wait your money.
This is the first time I stopped listening to any book I have purchased. I just couldn't stand listening to the narration any longer.
I wasn't sure what to make of this book at first. The characters were well developed and the pace of the story was ok. I have read other Kevin J. Anderson book and sometimes he really hits the mark and other times he misses it. This book fall in between a hit and a miss. I did like the Victorian style of thinking about science. The images put forth in the book harkened back to the silent films of the turn of the century. I though the narration was good.
I could not wait for this book to come out. For anyone that is a fan of Star Trek the original series this book is for you. It's not connected with that great show, but it's easy to see where the ideas came from. It was a lot of fun. Best of all, it went in a completely different direction that I anticipated. I was not disappointed at all. If you listen to this book, place you tongue firmly in your cheek.
I have read most of what Stephen Coonts has written. I was looking forward to this when I first heard about it. While it's not the best he has written but it was not bad. The narrator was very good. The stories were different from Stephen's past efforts. I was hoping for more. Still I would recommend this book to any of Coonts fans.
I enjoy short stories. I did not really enjoy this one. I'm just glad I didn't spend much for it. The story went nowhere and then didn't pay off in the end.
This is a amazing story of a journey taken by my favorite late nite talk show host. It was made even better since Craig Ferguson read it himself. I am recommending this book to my friends.
He was great. This book would not have been as much fun to read if it had been read by anyone else.
If you are a fan of steam engines, strange mechanical devises also powered by steam and a rip roaring adventure, then this book is for you. Don't care much for those things, then this book is still great fun. The story moves ahead like a runaway steam engine. Hang on for a great time.
