I've enjoyed listening to books by Thomas Perry. I listened to the Butcher Boy #1 and 2, then I thought I'd try Death Benefits. It's different than the first books I listened to, but I definitely would recommend it for a great listen. I've become a fan of Thomas Perry!
I can't understand the negative comments about this series. It is a great listen. It's in a series, so naturally, one is left wondering what is coming next. The writer is great at building and keeping the suspense going!
It has to rate at the top of the many books I've listened to so far. I wasn't familiar with Thomas Perry before, but he's a very engaging writer, keeps the story moving so you wonder how The Butcher's Boy can possibly get out of this situation. I highly recommend it.
Rich character development, bringing out deep flaws as well as tremendous strength combined with building tension make this a captivating listen. It brings out the strengths as well as the tests of friendships. I highly recommend this book.
This was one of the best books I've listened to - great character development and action. In the beginning I didn't know who to root for as every character seemed to have serious flaws. But one of the characters begins to evolve into a more positive person. There are many twists and turns in the plot that kept me guessing.
I have become a fan of Bernard Cornwell. I haven't always been greatly interested in history. Many of the classes on history I took were dry and boring. This certainly is not the case with Cornwell, and his series featuring Sharpe have been captivating. This one was a wonderful listen. I wanted to draw the listening time out, but I found that I couldn't stop listening to it.
A great listen! I've become a great fan of Bernard Cornwell. He has a wonderful ability to create believable characters and weave them into a fascinating story, while making the history of the event come alive. His battlefield descriptions are brutally real. He vividly shows what war does to those involved - the raw fear, the incredible bravery and the trembling cowardice. I will listen to all of his books, and hope he keeps on writing for a long time.
