Kurt Vonnegut?s Welcome to the Monkey House is a collection of short stories. Some of the stories are dated material and stories that might require knowledge of current events from the 1960?s to fully understand. This is not the norm for most of the stories. The stories subjects range from science fiction to American humor. I found many of the stories to be delightful, imaginative and laugh out loud funny. This audio book is a good family travel book that can be enjoyed by many listeners but some of the stories may not be appropriate for children under the age of 13 due to subject matter.

I remember back in the 70?s when George Carlin stretched the boundaries of freedom of speech (FOS) where he taught expanding minds how to look at words and speech in an open and humorous way. The professor of the English/American language has turned into a bitter old man. His monologue is full of futility and despair. George has given up on humanity and sees nothing but vanity and failure in human endeavors. We are nothing more than evolved carnivores. The modern day Tyrannosaurus Rex who eats it young and wages war upon the weak and impoverished to steal their resources to feed our hungry energy needs while at the same time killing the planet we live upon. "Vanity, vanity, all is vanity." says George. "Not funny, not funny, no longer funny." I say. Audible needs to remove George Carlin from the Humor section and create a Grumpy Old Man section.
