Little is known about the Ancient Greek oral poet Homer, the supposed 8th century BC author of the world-read Iliad and his later masterpiece, The Odyssey. These classic epics provided the basis for Greek education and culture throughout the classical age and formed the backbone of humane education through the birth of the Roman Empire and the spread of Christianity.

    Overall

While this book is considered literary classic, the narrator leaves much to be desired. The up & down volume is a distraction! I want this selection in my library, only because I am a true fan of the classics.

A L'Amour fan will not be disappointed with this title. The narrator captures the true spirit of the storyline and you will want to keep listening.

This is a free download, for members only, of "Duel in the Snow, or Red Ryder Nails the Cleveland Street Kid", the first story in the anthology on which the film A Christmas Story was based. Young Ralphie Parker launches an unstoppable campaign to get Santa, or anyone else, to give him a Red Ryder carbine action 200-shot range-model air rifle. Who cares that the whole adult world is telling him, "You'll shoot your eye out, kid"?

This excerpt from the book was disappointing. Dick Cavet as a narrator, in my opinion was a poor choice.

On a freezing December night, with a full moon hovering in the black sky over New York City, two people are brutally murdered, the death scenes marked by eerie, matching calling cards: moon-faced clocks investigators fear ticked away the victims' last moments on earth. Renowned criminologist Lincoln Rhyme immediately identifies the clock distributor and has the chilling realization that the killer, who has dubbed himself the Watchmaker, has more murders planned in the hours to come.

Joe Montenga is a great narrator. His performance of this title lends to the listening pleasure. The story line is date and time coded and this somewhat is annoying however, it does portray the plot and conditions of the search for the villians/killers. The ending is not what one would expect. I won't give it away here, but leave that for the listener. I give this book 4 stars. Highly recommended. I will look for more from this author.

Comedian and activist Margaret Cho's righteous comic rage finds its targets with pinpoint accuracy and is meant not only to entertain but also to champion the civil liberties and raise awareness for the social injustices that are her impassioned causes, among them freedom of expression, gay rights, racial discrimination, and capital punishment. It is this blend of comedy and fervor that awakens the devotion of her legions of fans and permeates this book.

    Overall

I am a fan of Margaret Cho for many years. I am truely sorry that I purchased this title. It is not comedy! It is rather Ms. Cho's slant on politics and I am rather neutral when it comes to this type of editorial. I do not recommend this title to anyone looking for Margaret's comedy.

I give this presentation one star only because a lower indicator is not available. The presentation of the defenders before the US Supreme Court were at best confused and constantly repeated themselves. I was really disappointed in listening to Justice Ginsgerg. She has such a boring voice. I wonder how many members of the audience fell asleep during her oratory?

In this unforgettable chronicle of perhaps the most famous moment in American military history, James Bradley has captured the glory, the triumph, the heartbreak, and the legacy of the six men who raised the flag at Iwo Jima. Here is the true story behind the immortal photograph that has come to symbolize the courage and indomitable will of America.

After reading all the publicity regarding this book, I decided to purchase before listening. I am not disappointed! This historic rendering of the events leading up to the planting of the FLAG on Iwo and the controversy surrounding the participants in that event are brought to the fore by the author. Being a former Marine, I was delighted to see the views of others and disappointed in the outcome of several of the lives of those heros of such a tragic battle in our nation's history. I recommend this title to any and all war history buffs and give it two thumbs-up.

Within the living memory of Americans are two deadly surprise attacks against the United States: Japan's assault on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, and the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Both times, the Library of Congress sent people out to record the voices of ordinary Americans as they reacted to a changed world.

It is terrible to think that the American nation was do dramatically invaded on both of the occasions covered by this program. However, having said that, we as American's must take pause and offer thanks to the powers above that this land is so blessed. We need to reflect on the fathers of the land and pray and hope that their foresight will never die with STUPID amendments to our Constitution.

She's old-money Miami. He's barefoot Coconut Grove. The only thing they had in common was the law, until they faced each other in the steamiest murder trial of the century, a case that would make sparks fly, headlines scream, and opposites attract. Surrounded by crooks, con men, and a cast of colorful characters, Steve Solomon and Vickie Lord must solve the crime before they end up in ruin, in jail, or, worse, in bed.

This book title is listed under legal thrillers. In my opinion, it should be listed under comedy/drama. Long story line, too much filler. The aspect of an autistic child being the center of the plot, does cause one to pause and wonder, how much does our government interfear with family values and step it where they don't belong. Good read otherwise.

Carl Reiner intersperses plots of biblical heresy, adultery, mild schizophrenia, and quadruplets separated at birth. NNNNN is the title of the protagonist Nat's novel, which is a comic retelling of Cain and Abel's struggles to procreate in the Garden of Eden, parts of which Reiner includes in his story. As Nat reinvents the origin of man, he investigates his own origins, looking into his adoption and discovering that he is one of four quadruplets who have been separated at birth.
