"Didnt feel like the end of the trilogy"

I have been waiting for this book since the second I finished The Dark River. I even called to complain to Audible when it wasn't available the day that the book was published.

All that being said, I wasn't too impressed by The Golden City, Some of the plot points were resolved to easily and it felt jumpy. I even had to verify TWICE that I was listening to the unabridged version.

I wasn't really thrilled with how the book ended. For the FINAL book, I expected things to resolve, but there are a things left hanging out there. I know they can't all be fairy tale endings, but I was left unsatisfied at the end.

I would still recommend the entire series to friends and family.

  • Rain Gods: A Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (15 hrs and 45 mins)
    • By James Lee Burke
    • Narrated By Will Patton
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

When Hackberry Holland became sheriff of a tiny Texas town near the Mexican border, he'd hoped to leave certain things behind: his checkered reputation, his haunted dreams, and his obsessive memories of the good life with his late wife, Rie. But the discovery of the bodies of nine illegal aliens, machine-gunned to death and buried in a shallow grave behind a church, soon makes it clear that he won't escape so easily.

"Another great book by James Lee Burke"

After listening to several Dave Robicheaux novels by Burke, I gave this one a listen and was not disappointed!

Rain Gods has compelling characters; a real good guy with problems of his own and a really bad bad guy. The story was complex and detailed and plays out in a nice pace that isn't too fast and not too slow either.

  • There's Something about St. Tropez

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 59 mins)
    • By Elizabeth Adler
    • Narrated By Julie Briskman
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Five international vacationers, strangers to each other, misfits running from their daily lives, are brought together at the same small seaside Hotel of Dreams, by a rental scam, an international art heist, passion, murder, and a haunting. It had seemed like the perfect getaway for Malibu's famous TV private investigator, Mac Reilly, and his girlfriend/partner, Sunny Alvarez, along with his three-legged, one-eyed rescue dog, Pirate, and her snippy three-pound fiend on four paws, the chihuahua Tesoro.

    Monica says: "Great summer read!"
"Malibu Nights is sooo much better"

One of Those Malibu Nights was such a great listen that I couldn't wait for my credits to get this one. I PAID CASH!

The story took forever to get started and once it has I'm not very intrigued. A few of the characters are interesting, most are annoying.

The dilemma that I'm faced with is this... Do I waste my money and stop listening or waste my time and continue?

I just want it to be over.

"A beautifully written book on an ugly subject"

My daughter found this book and while she is reading it, I listened to the audiobook. This was an amazing story, crafted beautifully and I think the audiobook version adds something extra with the dual character voices.

This story is also a great way to connect with my teenage daughter and keep those lines of communication open and honest. This book deals with lots of ugly issues many of which you never want to discuss with your kids and that is the reason that you have to. To be able to use this book as a parenting tool has just been a bonus.

I highly recommend this to parents and their teens to read together or individually for discussion.

  • The Ruins

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 39 mins)
    • By Scott Smith
    • Narrated By Patrick Wilson
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The Ruins follows two American couples enjoying a pleasant, lazy beach holiday together in Mexico. On an impulse, they go off with newfound friends in search of one of their group, the young German who, in pursuit of a girl, has headed for the remote Mayan ruins, site of a fabled archeological dig.

"a great 1 hour story told in 14 hours"

Wow was this a long drawn out piece of ________. I only gave it 1 star becuase that is the minimum, it deserves half a star.

It could be a good short story, but 14 hours? This was not thrilling, most of it was obvious. Nothing really happened. I don't want to go into any spoilers, but they spent hours explaining the smallest details. And ultimately the book went nowhere.

I wasted a credit and 14 hours of my life.

"Some good stories with HORRIBLE Narration"

There are some good stories here, but the narration is seriously horrible. I skipped half the stories because I could not stand the narrators.
