It's always been just Kate and her mom - and her mother is dying. Her last wish? To move back to her childhood home. So Kate's going to start at a new school with no friends, no other family, and the fear her mother won't live past the fall. Then she meets Henry. Dark. Tortured. And mesmerizing. He claims to be Hades, god of the Underworld - and if she accepts his bargain, he'll keep her mother alive while Kate tries to pass seven tests. Kate is sure he's crazy - until she sees him bring a girl back from the dead. Now saving her mother seems crazily possible. If she succeeds, she'll become Henry's future bride, and a goddess.

    Story

This book started off so strong! Great plot, an edge of mystery and romance all sparked into one. It wasn't until half way through the book that the plot started to get sloppy and redundant. I did finish this and the next 3 books in hopes that it would return to how it was in the beginning, but it got worse each time. This is not a review bashing the book, as it is clear the author had love for the story. It is just my feeling on it, as I really did give the whole series a chance to win me over.

If there was one thing that could have changed my view of the book for the better, it would have been the narrator. She was one of my least favorite I have listened to in all of my audible books. Her dialogue was monotone and she seemed uninterested throughout the reading.
