"Once you have the 7 - its over!"
The book has individual endorsements but little science or facts to support the claims. I believe what the Author is saying but I found the book to be more advertizement and self promotion then providing science bases evidence from studies or research. I do believe these foods are causing serious health issues for many people but I wanted to see the detail behind why a food causes these so called intolerance's. The editor could have eliminated most of chapter one and chapter two. These chapters contained little value other than some cheer-leading to help get many motivated. I am sure this could have been laid out in better and it might be a better book if I could put my hands on it but in audio form it left me with a sense there were things missing.
I did not need countless testimonies accounting for how great this diet is. I believe the listener needs more information on what good foods are to replace the bad 7. I wanted to hear more about the names for ingredients the food industry is using to hide what they are using in their products!
I am being critical as the book has some good information but not enough to warrant a full book. I was a little disappointed.
"Silent Partners"
Paws, Teeth, Duty
I am sure this is a book many will not purchase unless they have a passion for working dogs and what they can do for us as humans. The stories in this book however, demonstrate how little we rely on what I would call a low tech solution to the problems we are facing today in modern warfare. K9's have a sense, we as humans have only begun to scratch the surface of what these animals can do. They protect us and lead us to safer environments through a growing need find peace in a difficult and challenging set of problems. These animals and trainers/handlers demonstrate how useful of a tool these animals are to the soldiers they support. This book is a great account of this low tech solution has been overlooked by our leaders to solve problems. These animals, when used in combination with technologies will help our soldiers and police officers to serve and protect us more in the future. This book is a great account of how these animals are used in conflicts today around the world.
"Heal ThySelf"
I love fresh ideas that present the establishment with questions they are unwilling to address and try to understand. Max Gerson and today, Charlotte Gerson, have helped people heal themselves. I love how simple this method is and what patients have been healed. Great book that made do more research on Dr. Gerson and what he has done. No chemotherapy, no complex gene splicing, no fancy words, just real organic juices, some interesting approaches to detoxing the liver, why and how that works and what diseases this natural therapy has been successful at changing. I love the accounts from real people who have follow the therapy to the letter and had success and that it doesn't make the patients sicker! What chemotherapy can say that? It should be the standard first treatment for every patient - especially when the oath doctor all take is - FIRST DO NO HARM. Max and Charlotte are true pioneers and people who have made a difference in this world.
This book and the pH Miracle have great common connections but still have different approaches both based with the foods we put into our bodies.
No
This book really made me think about the Trillions of dollars being made on standard Cancer therapies. How many hospital have cancer treatment centers? If the Gerson Therapy is real and it works for patients, why are doctors not using it? This book made me research what is happening in Japan and other parts of the world. The book made me question the ethics of our Medical establishment. It has made me consider new ideas and to investigate and question what is real, honest, and truthful about my personal health. What I am discovering from reading this book has made me trust our government less, not believe everything our medical community has to offer, and today I see a strong and growing link between big business, lobbyist, and our government and the vast conflicts of interest and lies being propagated to the public about the safety of food and what is defined as food.
Everyone healthy or sick should read this book. It might change your mind about your choices, change your mind about your doctor, and change your mind about who you vote for in the next election.
"Interesting Approach to Understanding the Our Diet"
The Father of Medicine said "Let thy food be thy Medicine" and that is true more than ever with GMO's, Pesticides, Chemicals, Herbicides, and a host of things invading our bodies. With all the medical issues today, looking at what we eat and how our bodies respond is critical to our health. Dr. Young's approach is interesting. Understand our blood chemistry and what changes our blood's chemistry is very controversial but there are other bodies of evidence that this approach could lead us away from the SAD diet we consume today. Dr. Victor A. Marcial-Vega Renowned Oncologist and Medical Researcher--John Hopkins trained did a Clinical Study of Goji reducing the Acidity in the blood. The video of his presentation is amazing; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GzV5IxzEZUg I recommend everyone read this book and learn more about how your body works and how it responds to the different foods you put into it. _____________________
I highly recommend this book as it brings a different perspective on food and diet.
Yes - If I had enough time to sit and listen to this book I would have listened straight through.
The two readers made the book more real, alive, and for me gave it a new dimension that kept my interest and added more feeling to the stories of real changes for people who embarked down this process. I find it very interesting that connection between the pH Miracle and the work doctor Max Gerson, M.D. and the Gerson institute has been using for years. The foods are similar but there are major differences in the specific foods one ingests to heal. I also find it very interesting that T. Colin Campbell, an American biochemist who specializes in the effects of nutrition on long-term health, recommends many of the same basic principles of eating healthy organic vegetables, no meat, and no dairy. Is there a connection with eating a vegan diet that is free from chemicals and changing the pH of our body? Can juicing and coffee colonics rid our bodies of poisons? I am on the quest to find out and this book is one I have added to my collection for how to heal thyself and one I found very interesting.
"Deserves a second listen"
Heart disease, cancer, DM, MS, and so many other disease are exploding in the United States. Find me a hospital that is not building or planning to build a cancer center and I will show you a dying hospital. This book really looks at what we are eating and the conclusions are clear, we are eating ourselves to an early, premature death. It also shows the link between our NON protective Government and the Food Industries to promote cheap low quality "food". This book will make you look closer at what you are eating and understand the investment you are making in yourself with today's meal will affect your health some time in the future. I found the information to be presented in a manner that allows the reader to understand and make his or her own conclusions from the findings presented. The referenced materials clearly show this is not your average book. This is book is jam packed with detailed information and will be referenced by many future authors. It will change what and how we eat and hopefully make this a healthier stronger country. I hope!
I find having a book read to me in this audio format, give me the opportunity to think about the topics in a different way. The timing of the words, pauses, and just the readers understanding of punctuation, increases my depth of thought somehow. I found myself building topics and connecting things I might not have if I was reading it myself.
I am moved when I see our leaders of this Nation, supporting laws that will make us sicker and sicker as a nation. Its clear our National Health Problem is rapidly going to exceed the ability to treat all the sick. Hospitals and Healthcare is growing to become its own industry. Is that good for our country? This book clearly illustrates we, as a nation, do not have long before complete economic collapse. The few healthy working people will be left to support the growing sick population and a National Healthcare Insurance will not be able to fix this crisis! It makes me wonder what ethics these businessmen and congressmen are using because the economic impact is going to be the downfall of our country! Gun violence is truly dramatic and headlines worthy to sell TV ads but when you think about the 3600 heart attacks every 24 hours across this nation, who is crying about that number? We have big problems in this country and they are clearly bigger than LAW trained career politicians can even understand. When you think about what this book is saying, maybe you will shift your thinking and vote differently with your next meal. But I am sure if you are still in your foggy brain from all these bad foods you will remain ignorant, tired, and unable to think clearly anyway so this issue will be far beyond your ability to understand!
This is book should be a wake up call but most will never find it, read it, or understand the impact it will have on this nation... sad.
"A sad truth"
We all knew these elite athletes were pushing hard to the edge of what human beings could do naturally but this story goes beyond just Tyler's experiences and he explain the Cycling industry's need to look the other way in order for everyone to continue to make the money! Yet again the root of all evil - money! What will we do to get it, what lies will we allow ourselves to believe, and who really has the strength to say when enough is enough. We all know NFL and college football players are taking things to increase their size and strength! We have seen baseball players doing it and now cyclists. Its been going on in the Olympics for years so why don't we just allow it all and call it okay instead of looking the other way and pretending its not going on. Are we really harming people by doing this? I am sure there are people who are getting sick from doing this and some that even will die but death should be the reason to stop pushing the limits of what humans can do. We are a chemical world - better living through chemistry, right? If this was truly about the sporting event itself would we see aerodynamic bikes for time trials and carbon fiber this and that on every bike. This book dives deep into the world from Tyler's perspective and how winning becomes the only thing no matter the cost because being second is merely the first loser and there is no money for being second is there? The connection to a perceived hero in Lance Armstrong just highlights the willingness to do whatever it takes to be number one and just how much money can be achieved if you can be number one several times. But we need to step back and ask, at what cost? As a cyclist, triathlete, weekend warrior who battles my waistline, I am sure if this was my profession I would most likely be right there with all of these guys trying to earn my salary and looking for that advantage. The book made me stop and think about what is my definition of performance enhancing is and what it means to be healthy and what I might do to improve, achieve, and be with the competition at the top. Giving myself cancer is not my idea of success but if your only way to earn a living has become riding a bike then maybe I would follow Lance and Tyler down this long road. Is Tyler lucky and Lance the one we should feel for?
I believe this is just a small part of the growing trend to do whatever it takes to make huge money no matter who it hurts. Chemical companies back these events and we wonder why. Are you that naive? Did the LiveStong foundation take birth out of doping? But we just keep on living without thinking about the cost of what is happening. Making money is the game and the more you make the more success you have the more people want a piece of the action.
Great book as it made me think about foundations, cancer, racing, winning, and values.
This book just shows the power and corruption in big sports. I feel sorry for athletes who lose sight of racing for the pure sport of it. But humans will do whatever it takes to achieve despite our values.
"It made me think"
This book in audio form made me purchase the hard cover book with the illustrations. The stories are almost unbelievable. The ideas forged in my brain, have me concerned for what we are doing to our planet, our streams, rivers, lakes, and to our bodies. I found it scary, spiritual, and beyond what we think, believe, or understand about water, prayer, energy, and the connections we share as creatures with water...
Cloud bursting, prayer to clear water, and the images of what amazing changes happened to water before and after....and thinking that we are 70% water as is the planet - what can that powerful force do inside us to heal and change our bodies and what is the connection between the two elements?
This book has changed me and what I think about water; what is in my water, what are the chemicals we are dumping into our drains that are contaminating our rivers, streams, bays, and oceans. Why we are not worried about it? Its sad what we are doing and we need to change - Test your water - do you know what is really in it and what its doing to you on the outside as well as the inside? Its a crime! In many ways this book made me cry - we are destroying our planet by killing the water....
"Clear and simple"
I love Zig's voice as I listened to his inflections, pauses, accents, as well as the simple stories to paint clear pictures of the points being made. His simple humor, southern charm, and human connections create a blend of things that make you feel like he is your friend talking to you. He is not preaching just bringing you in touch with things we may have not learned clearly in our journey. His many points clearly remind us all of the work we have to do internally to be better people.
Inspirational, moving, enlightening
This is a book to listen to over and over, once straight through, and then a chapter at a time to find things that were important to you. It was like bodybuilding for your brain, soul, and personality.
Something I will listen to over and over to help remind myself of things I can work on to be a better human being, a better friend, a better father, teacher.....and the list goes on.
"A Champion's Journey is a great title"
Chrissie Wellington when you meet her is bigger than life. Her bubbly smile and charm captures everyone's attention. This book gave me a new and more complete understanding of who Chrissie is as a person and a human being, she is more than just the champion of triathlon. She is doing more of things more of us should be doing - living life without limits.
Life is like a triathlon, long, enduring, one seemingly endless event one after another, and as an athlete (weekend warrior), I found the book refreshingly different as Chrissie described details about her personal challenges I would have never expected her to reveal. She has yet again demonstrated her inner strength and willingness to live and completely expose herself to everyone, a clear picture of a champion in life. I highly recommend this book if you follow Ironman events. It truly painted a picture of who I believe Chrissie really is every single day.
