At its core, The Power of Habit contains an exhilarating argument: The key to exercising regularly, losing weight, raising exceptional children, becoming more productive, building revolutionary companies and social movements, and achieving success is understanding how habits work. Habits aren’t destiny. As Charles Duhigg shows, by harnessing this new science, we can transform our businesses, our communities, and our lives.

If you have never read anything about building habits nor read a self-help book, you would probably find this quite interesting. This audiobook is a series of stories showing how habits=behavior. The "point" the author is making in each individual story was predictable in the first 5 minutes but.... the stories were drawn out into descriptions lasting 20-45 minutes. I was determined to "see it through" and, was never so glad to reach the end of an audiobook. The speaker really tried to make use of his voice to create an "ahh ha" effect ...even though... I never found one zzzzzzz

An old Chinese proverb says "Women hold up half the sky." Then why do the women of Africa and Asia persistently suffer human rights abuses? Continuing their focus on humanitarian issues, journalists Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn take us to Africa and Asia, where many women live in profoundly dire circumstances.

Would you consider the audio edition of Half the Sky to be better than the print version?

I did not read the print version.

Who was your favorite character and why?

    too many to mention

    Which scene was your favorite?

    statistics blew me away.

If you could give Half the Sky a new subtitle, what would it be?

Think you have problems? You dont.

    Any additional comments?

I was glad I found so many disparaging reviews about the presentor speaking monotone. Though it almost kept me from getting the book. I listed to the preview and got a glimpse of what I would hear and I was prepared. But actually, I DID NOT find her monotone AT ALL!!! On the other hand, maybe it was because I EXPECTED her to be so.

Over the course of this gripping narrative, Dave Cullen approaches his subjects with unrivaled care and insight. What emerges are shattering portraits of the killers, the victims, and the community that suffered one of the greatest - and most socially and historically important - shooting tragedies of the 20th century.

What did you love best about Columbine?

proof that it's best to stay away from the TV when "breaking news" occurs.

What did you like best about this story?

    Presentation was gripping.

Have you listened to any of Don Leslie’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Have not heard any Don Leslie performances that I know of.

What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?

These boys DID NOT perfectly fit the "profile" as was stated in the news reports immediately following the incident. And, I think it was MUCH MUCH less "obvious" that these boys were crashing ...than reported. It seems that their parents, were treated very badly by those in media, who made it look as though the parents were IDIOTS for not seeing the OBVIOUS.

    Any additional comments?

The Boston Marathon bombing occurred within a few months after I finished this book. And, because of this book, I turned OFF the TV & encouraged everyone in my family to do the same (relating to news about the marathon bombing). Having refused to "take in" anything about the Marathon Bombing for weeks, I believe I will hear/learn the "more accurate" story that is yet to come out. And, next year, my memory of that event, should be much less cluttered than many.

Ego: The Fall of the Twin Towers and the Rise of a New Humanity is the first book to explore the positive evolutionary potential hidden in one of the most destructive events in history. In their examination of the evolutionary implications of 9/11 and its aftermath, the authors contend we are not falling into the grip of a new dark age at all, rather we are on the verge of a much brighter one as the Darwinian process of natural selection continues to advance humankind.

Here is the New York Times and international best seller, revised and expanded with a new afterword. This is the essential update of Fareed Zakaria's analysis about America and its shifting position in world affairs. In this new edition, Zakaria makes sense of the rapidly changing global landscape. With his customary lucidity, insight, and imagination, he draws on lessons from the two great power shifts of the past 500 years - the rise of the Western world and the rise of the United States - to tell us what we can expect from the third shift, the rise of the rest.
