"Powers is Under-represented on Audible"
One of the most ineteresting and lieterate fantasy writers of the last 30 years. This is an excellent listen.
"A Good Beginning"
I would listen to Crystal Soldier again because many elements it sets up continue to recur throught the Liaden series. Although I have read most of the Liaden books more than once, I had forgotten where some things came from. In addition, Sharon Lee's language is outstanding, and lends itself extremely well to being read aloud.
In the Liaden universe, this book and its sequel are genuinely different. Metaphorically, they serve the same role as The Hobbit served relative to The Lord of the rings.
Kevin Collins is workmanlike.
I would never listen to any book in one sitting.
The Liaden universe is, in many ways, as well thought through as Tolkien, but the actual writing is more tersely poetic. It offers insights into human connections in an exotic and beautiful package.
"Why don't you get more of this series?"
The Grantville series is well known, and has a large following. I have been waiting for Audible to get these for some time.
They are a phenomena to those who love both histories, and thinking about what might be.
Why doesn't Audible make an arrangement to get the rest of these from Recordedbooks, com?
"This Lady Can Write!"
The writing is just excellent --the combination of plotting and the richness of the language reminds one of the best of Guy Kay. She is more consistent, though....
I really enjoyed this.
"The best of this trilogy"
This trilogy is not on a par with "Under Heaven" --also by Kay --but it is quite good. This is the best of the 3.
"Need More of These"
Powers always combines an excellent level originality with a strongly disciplined writing style, and this book is well read. I enjoyed it a lot.
Blackstone has other Powers titles. Whty Audio hasn't procured them escapes me.
"Bujold Very Reliably Excellent"
She's an excellent writer. They are well read.
