Four young women have been found murdered—tortured and strangled in their own beds—all victims of the same brilliant monster. Using a skilled hand and the latest technology in forensic medicine, Kay Scarpetta begins the process of gathering the microscopic clues the latest battered body has to give.

Very distracting b/c the narrator sounds like she's smoking a Marlboro. Will avoid Criti in the future.

Very early one morning, a Minnesota political fixer answers his doorbell. The next thing he knows, he’s waking up on the floor of a moving car, lying on a plastic sheet, his body wet with blood. When the car stops, a voice says, "Hey, I think he’s breathing." And another voice says, "Yeah? Give me the bat." And that’s the last thing he knows. Davenport is investigating another case when the trail leads to the man’s disappearance, then - very troublingly - to the Minneapolis police department, then - most troublingly of all - to a woman who could give Machiavelli lessons.

John Norton says: "Still my favorite combo of author and reader"

Have read all 23 Prey books by John Sandford. Have a MAJOR CRUSH on Lucas Davenport, America's classic good boy/bad boy.

This Prey is a bit on the boring side - the characters and their interplay elicited some yawns. Usually I dive right into Sandford books and don't mind hitting my head on the bottom. That being said, Silken Prey deserves a four out of five.

    Long live Lucas Davenport!

Jerry Harris was a self-made California millionaire who, at age forty-four, had it all: booming businesses, yachts, a mansion, a beautiful wife, and a voice to rival Elvis. No one who knew this well-liked, generous man could make sense of his sudden disappearance one autumn night. On a final phone call to his brother from his Mercedes, Jerry breathed a muffled oath - then the line went dead.

Good book by Ann Rule but too lengthy and tedious. Could have been cut down quite a bit.

Wendy Gould is an attractive, happy suburban mom, and an experienced ex-cop. A chance meeting with a stranger in a hotel ends when the man is murdered and she's the only witness, forcing her to run from rogue federal agents determined to keep her silent, even if it means killing her. Things only get worse when the authorities - the wrong ones - find their way to her door, giving her no recourse but to flee from her only safe haven.

I am a huge fan of Andrew Gross, writing with James Patterson and independently. Bought most books on iTunes, so they won't appear in my Library. The narrator was so sing-song annoying that I've finally stopped listening to the book. She was totally wrong! Generously gave three stars because Gross really is a very good writer and I'd hate to discourage others from reading his previous books. Andrew Gross, ditch the narrator who makes every event sound like a day at the park, don't be so predictable, and stay away from the hot-button topic of hiding illegals to live freely in the USA. To me, the fate of illegal immigrants is a factual one and shouldn't be treated in the fashion you penned.

  • A Rose for Her Grave - and Other True Cases: Ann Rule's Crime Files, Book 1

"A Rose for Her Grave" - the principal story of this collection - vividly recreates the cautionary tale of Randy Roth, a misogynistic sociopath from the Pacific Northwest whose rage was directed primarily at women and children. Addicted to his own greed, Roth exercised a powerful aura of control over his victims, using his ability to charm and boyish good looks to lower their defenses. By the time they saw the reality of the madness in his eyes, it was usually too late.

These true crime cases written by Ann Rule, all of which I believe are newly told in this book, are well-written depictions of the havoc scum of the earth criminals impose upon innocent victims, their families and friends. Highly recommend.
The narrator, Laural Merlington, is a brilliant choice by Ann Rule to tell these stories in an authentic manner.

In Creekstone, Texas, a small, quiet suburb of Houston, football was king and David Temple was a prince. A former high school and college gridiron-star-turned-coach, he had a fairy-tale marriage to bright, vivacious Belinda Lucas, a teacher at the local high school who was so warm and popular her colleagues called her "The Sunshine Girl". The fairy tale ended savagely on January 11, 1999, when Belinda's lifeless body was discovered in a closet. Her skull had been shattered by a shotgun blast at close range. She was eight months pregnant.
