The Beautiful Creatures series is my absolute favorite. I have been an Audible member for years and these are the only books I have ever listened to twice. Yes, they move a bit slow and can be are repetetive. However, I enjoyed the sound effects and the narration is great. My favorite characters are Ethan's elderly aunts. They are adorable! I am from the deep South and they remind me of a couple of people I know!
If you are a follower, this one is a must. However, so much of this book is wasted on Betsy's constant "thinking" that I almost stopped listening. My mind wandered so much I had to rewind constantly. Nancy Wu's narration as Betsy is great, as usual, however I find the narration as Laura to be like nails on a chalkboard. Perhaps it has a lot to do with my dislike for that character in general, but it just becomes hard to listen to after awhile.
I enjoy a good joke as much as the next gal, however the constant silly lines in the previous stories have gotten on my nerves at times. This one, as well as the last, is more mature. At times both serious and laugh out loud funny, Charlie really comes into her powers and we begin to see what she is really capable of. I also like that the characters in her life continue to support her unconditionally and we begin to see them playing a huge part in her future. Narration is spot on, as usual!
I have learned from the many audiobooks I have listened to that the narrator can make or break a book. In this case, this narrator is perfect for this story. He reads the character of Ethan with a detachment that totally fits. While this is not a happy story, this is overall a great series. All three books kept my attention, and the ending was unexpected. Not sure how it could happen but I would love more!
I think this book is wonderful. When I first began listening to this author I wasn't sure her work was my cup of tea. I have now listened to all of her audiobooks, and I have discovered that I truly lose myself in her stories. Most of the characters are likeable and quirky, and I love the bit of magic in all of her books. I will listen to this one again!
This has consistently been one of my favorite series, and 12 books in Rachel, Jenks, Al and the gang feel a bit like old friends. I get a bit annoyed with the descriptions of each mood, such as all the brow furrowing and teeth clenching, but at the same time I like that the books feel as if they flow together smoothly. Ivy's character has lost relevance, and hopefully her story will either wrap up or ramp up if there is another book. I love that the inevitable finally happened with Rachel and Trent. Long overdue!
I agree with the other reviewer that said this is a brutal story. It is indeed. Try as I might I can't find one redeeming quality in any of the twisted characters. That being said, I still consider this a great book. The narration was spot on, and I could not put it down, even while I winced at the story line. If you are a fan of Gillian Flynn this one is a must.
I started this listen with a bit of hesitation due to the title. I thought it might be a bit hokey. I was pleasantly surprised! This is a demented, disturbing, hold onto your seat kind of story. If you liked Heart-Shaped Box you will love this one. Kate Mulgrew is now on my list of favorite narrators!
This book was awesome! Although the ending was great, and was a perfect fit for the story, I just dreaded it because I wanted more. Rarely does a book keep me hanging on every line, but this is one that did. I felt like I was there, exploring the building's mysteries with them. Just enough character development (Tim was my favorite). Narrator was spot on!
One of the best series ever, and one that I always look forward to. I love that Rachel has grown up, and it was nice to have less Ivy in this book. Marguerite Gavin's narration was great, as usual. However, I am about halfway through the book, and the over-use of phrases such as "I went cold", "His brow furrowed", etc. is driving me nuts. The constant use of "His best Peter Pan pose" and "Bunny-eared kiss kiss" used to just grate on my nerves. We are 11 books into the series. Just saying it may be time for some new lines.
