The author narrates this book and does an outstanding job. I have listened to 5 John Rain books and up until this read, the first, Rain Fall, narrated by Brian Nishii was by far my favorite experience. But Barry Eisler does an amazing job of bringing the five main characters alive.

The plot flows nicely and there are enough unexpected twists and subplots to keep the story really interesting.

Dox was spot on. However he did a very good job of narrating all of the characters.

I laughed out loud several times. Usually at the witty and ironic observations of Dox.

Note to Eisler and Brilliance - one narrator for a series. It is grating to hear a favorite character in a new voice. No one will match Eisler's

The naration was a boring monotone. This must have been Baldacci's first novel because the annoying use of adjectives one right after the other was sophomoric. Baldacci's later work is much better

An intriguing story line with surprising plot twists. Some of the coincidences were implausible but once I got beyond the annoying semantics I did get caught up in the plot.

Monotone

Anger at how many stupid choices the heroine made - placing herself and her family in repeated danger. Disappointment because of the naration and the maddening superlatives.

A rewrite with crisp editing would make this a very interesting story

Ignore the naysayers who claim this is a rip off of Lee Child's Jack Reacher character. John Puller is far more believable than Reacher, a West Point graduate who travels around with nothing but a folding toothbrush. Puller is human, vulnerable, and realistic.

The plot was riveting. It sort of rushes to a conclusion but it is very interesting

John Rain is an intelligent, introspective assassin, with a soft spot for women and kids. He spends a lot of time soul searching and normally I quickly get turned off by characters studying their navels, but Rain is so smart and the analogies he uses are so apt, that it remains captivating throughout the novel.
Eisler puts in so much accurate detail that the novel takes on a sense of docu-drama, rather than pure fiction.
Brian Nishii does an excellent job bringing Rain and Midori to life. His facility with the Japanese language adds to the authenticity of the novel and was my favorite narrator of the Rain series until I listened to The Detachment read by the author. I highly recommend that book as well, but caution you that it is down line in the series and unless you listen to the books in order you have a lot of gaps.
I really am disappointed that Brilliance Audio didn't stick with Nishii or Eisler for all the books. Some of the other narrators are frankly awful and it takes a while to make the mental shift necessary able to visualize the characters with those narrators harsh accents and affectations after listening to Nishii and Eisler's dead-on presentations.
Great book, great presentation, great characters.

Brian's facility with the Japanese language helps personalize Rain and Midori. You can visualize their Asian features and cultural customs when you listen to Brian's narration, unlike the other harsh American accents.

Note to Eisler and Brilliance - pick one narrator to read a series. It is plainly irritating to hear a character you have come to like suddenly take on a whole new voice.

I enjoyed Transfer of Power and Third Option by Vince Flynn and narrated by Nick Sullivan. I was looking forward to the next book in the series. Boy was I disappointed. George Guidall's whinny narration sucked all of the anticipated pleasure out of this listen. In Transfer and Third Option Mitch Rapp is a confident steady force that the listener can readily accept as capable of carrying out the dangerous and deadly escapades he is immeshed in. With Guidall's whinny narration, Rapp becomes a petulant angry person. I don't look forward to the remaining Rapp series with Guidall's narration. I may have to buy the paperback and read them the old fashioned way.

I enjoyed Mitch Rapp's continued efforts to rid America of evil people. Nick Sullivan does a great job of narration.

The story line is unique and intriguing. This is a typical Baldacci mystery and his fans will enjoy reading the book. Unfortunately the narration by Orlagh Cassidy is so grating at first that it really detracts from the listening experience. Only several hours into the book after getting caught up in the story was I able to ignore my irritation at Ms Cassidy's stilted delivery.

I have listened to 30+ Audible books and this is by far the worse narration. Sorry Ms. Cassidy but maybe you should look into another line of work.

A good legal novel. Interesting plot twist at the end. Connelly introduces his characters well and builds the suspense nicely. As an attorney I found his legal references and his analysis of the trial process very accurate. I highly recommend this book for anyone who likes legal mysteries.
