Georgette Heyer's books are wonderful with accurate details of the Regency period and rich with quirky characters. This book is a delightful read and yet not a "silly" book. It is light-hearted and yet just as good literature as a Jane Austen. The herione is not the usual beauty, rather she is dumpy and plain - but you will love her just the same. Not my favorite Georgette Heyer, but enjoyable and very well read - a pleasure to listen.
I love everything Larry McMurtry writes and of course this is one of his best. His characters are so developed and enjoyable and this narrator caught their personalities and his accents were great. I have read the book a couple of times, also watched the movie, but this telling made knowing what happens irrelevant - it was wonderful hours spent.
I enjoyed this book very much; the narrator was excellent. The story is complicated and it is sometimes confusing when the reader switches characters. This book is very similar to Dan Brown books, so if you like those, you will enjoy this -- maybe more.
Karleen Koen's first novel "Through a Glass Darkly is one of my favorite reads, over the years I have enjoyed it several times. Her next novel was the third part of the trilogy and was almost boring so I was unsure of how "Dark Angels" would be. I was thrilled! This first part of the huge historical drama kept me anxious to keep listening. The details of the English court seemed quite accurate and once again I found myself caught up in the personal lives of the characters and left wanting more. The reader was excellent. If you like "costume dramas" and the works of Jane Austen, Georgette Heyer, George Elliot, etc., you will love this book.
