On the morning of July 3, 1994, a misreported forest fire on Storm King Mountain in Colorado became one of the greatest tragedies in the annals of firefighting. In this dramatic reconstruction of the disaster and its aftermath, John N. MacLean tells the heroic and cautionary story of nature at its most unforgiving.

Voice is hard at first but his convictions for the fire service shows in tone. This is not heart warming as a book

LAPD cop Scott James is not doing so well, not since a shocking nighttime assault by unidentified men killed his partner, Stephanie, nearly killed him, and left him enraged, ashamed, and ready to explode. He is unfit for duty - until he meets his new partner. Maggie is not doing so well, either. The German shepherd survived three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan sniffing explosives before she lost her handler to an IED and sniper attack, and her PTSD is as bad as Scott’s. They are each other’s last chance.

This is a top ten book hands down! I didn't think that the Elvis cole and joe pike novels could be topped but Crais delivers. This is a captivating story that in bodies a well round plot with vivid writing. If you are a dog lover beware this book may sting at times but will leave you longing for a similar Companionship. A must listen, compliments to Crais and all that worked on this novel
