All the wonderful reviews were the incentive to buy the book and I loved the TV series "Dead Like Me", so I was hyped to really enjoy it. I'm still trying, but halfway through and sometimes it is all I can do NOT to turn it off and move on to another book. It tries too hard to be clever, and comes off like a cheap supernatural romance novel. Maybe I will love it by the end, but somehow........I doubt it.

Based on some of the reviews, I wasn't sure if I would enjoy Auel's book as an audio version, but I loved it. I read the first 4 books in the series the old fashioned way, but the narration added a lot to the experience. Ayla is a fascinating character, and I enjoyed the continuation of her story.

This is not my type of book. I bought it for my husband, but decided to listen to it myself. I loved this book, even when I was clenching my jaw and closing my eyes at the details of a war that my generation experienced and many of my friends lived and died through. Thank you to Karl Marlantes for writing it and to Bronson Pinchot for a masterful job of reading it!

I bought this book based on the reviews, because usually books about horses are disappointing. Not this one! I loved the characters, the narration, and especially the details about horses, dressage and the "airs" that were accurate and real. The characters are real and developed, and I enjoyed them all. Highly recommend this one!
