Such a contrived story.
His voice characterizations were distracting at times.
So disappointing because I love a good period piece and the subject sounded intriguing.
I love Jacqueline Winspear and her Maisie Dobbs...so eloquent and sophisticated. Rich in story and detail.
Kim Hicks however drove me a bit batty! She is so harsh in tone and her narration so rapid it made this audible experience rather painful. Bring back Rita Barrington with her smooth, dulcet tone...she gave the Maisie Dobbs story so much shape and substance.
Nonetheless...I love this series so far and will continue reading and listening. Hopefully Orlagh Cassidy's reading will be more pleasant in the subsequent audio books.
