Is there anything you would change about this book?

It is a trite book, a pastiche of what is already out there. It needed an originality injection, the love/lust story line was particularly tedious and should habpve been skipped altogether.

Would you ever listen to anything by Harry Harrison again?

    No

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Do you think The Stainless Steel Rat needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Evil is most assuredly afoot - and Britain’s fate rests in the hands of an alluring renegade... and a librarian. These are dark days indeed in Victoria’s England. Londoners are vanishing, then reappearing, washing up as corpses on the banks of the Thames, drained of blood and bone. Yet the Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences - the Crown’s clandestine organization whose bailiwick is the strange and unsettling - will not allow its agents to investigate. Fearless and exceedingly lovely Eliza D. Braun, however, with her disturbing fondness for dynamite, refuses to let the matter rest...

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

This is a VERY frothy book, and very imitative of Janet Evanovitch and Stephanie Plum. Somebody who does not mind how derivative the work is might enjoy its similarity to Evanovitch's series.

How could the performance have been better?

The narrator veered between an Italian American and a southern accent. I think it would have been better if she had not attempted accents at all.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Liar, Liar?

Way too many scenes involving the mother of the P.I.

When Rupert Sethleigh’s body is found one morning, laid out in the village butcher’s shop and minus its head, the inhabitants of Wandles Parva aren’t particularly upset. Sethleigh was a blackmailing money lender and when Mrs Bradley begins her investigation she finds no shortage of suspects. Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

It was not a waste of time, but it would be a bit strong to say that it was time well spent.

Would you recommend The Mystery of a Butcher's Shop to your friends? Why or why not?

I could imagine a friend getting interested in the author's work and this might be a good introduction to it.

What three words best describe Patience Tomlinson’s voice?

    A trifle grating.
