"Good Start to the Series"
If you've decided to start the whole series after hearing a few of the latter books, then here you are. A little too 80's cop movie for me (drug dealers, Vietnam, dirty cops...) but worth the time.
"Mehh..."
Of course, I've read several. Some are better than others, this one is sort of in the middle.
A little more character development & I didn't really by the ending. Sort of a rush job to set up following books?
No
Yes, &'certainly for someone trying to knock out the whole series, it's just not the best of the lot.
"Wow!"
I cannot recommend this enough. I started it over the second I was done w/ the 1st run-through. An epic story, amazing characters, just a solid piece of entertainment. Some reviews say this is "lighter" than some of his other works, but that is only sort of true. I would say it is very accesable to a wider audience, but a smarter than average audience, to be sure.
I have fireds who are listening to Reamde as well & we talk about how they are dreading that it will be ending... I suggested the entire re-do or re-pllay. They had never even considered that w/ prior books, but are fully expecting to w/ this one.
Story, all over the map doesn't do the book justice. But if you've read N.S. before, you know what to expect.
No, but I was very happy w/ the narrator.
Laughed out loud, looked up locations on Google Earth & some other outside searches. Typical w/ N.S. reads.
Get this book, go on a road trip.
"Stunning Tale. Great Narration."
1st, Ron Perlman (Hellboy)is a real suprise. Excelent reader, great tone and pacing. Is he Russian? Story is very engrossing, the details make the book. Grim tale and plenty of misery, don't listen if you've just gone off your meds, but worth the effort for the real emotional attatchment you build w/ the players.
"Wow, Great Story, GRRR... Narrator Switch"
Story was best one yet by M Connelly! Really excited to get back into M Haller from Lincoln Lawyer. They switched the dang narrator. This is a bad habbit w/ this series. New guy was just to laid back, horrible on Bosch, would have been perfect if book was about the new surfer dude. Great new charachter BTW. Really liked him and rooted for him to do well. But was about Haller and at least the narrator could have listened to prior to see how to pronounce name!
"Super Book, could not get out of my car!"
Especially after the disapointing "lost Light" had me thinking of quiting the series. Very interesting, lots of different locations, well paced story. Only, very minor, issue was w/ the exelent narration except for the maid and little girl. Maid sounded like speedy gonzolas and little gire was too ??? Both were small parts and overall narration was great.
"Slow Build Up, Good Wrap Up."
Am going 50/50 on the MC novels. Really like Lincoln Lawyer and some of the later "non-Harry B" books. Tried to get into series by starting at begining, but the 1st two seemed dated... All about Vietnam and too predicable by 1/2. But I liked them enough to give the series another shot. Jumped up to Lost Light as it had decent reviews. Story was good if a long time coming. Was really hating Harry not being a cop as was he. Narrator was great. Am already bored by HB's not being able to work a computer. Old, tired play and it's turning up in next book too. Drop it, my Grandmother can go online and check the weather now-a-days. If you like the series, you don't need my input, it you're on the edge, it's OK and if you're new to MC, start w/ the Lincoln Lawyer and Chasing the Dime.
"Best C. Moore Book to listen to."
Have read all Chris's books and listened to them all as well. For some reason I had trouble getting into this read, but the listen was spectacular. The narrator was great, the jokes were spot on, everything came together for me w/ the audio book!
"You're already going to buy it."
Now that the attacks have happened authors explore the results of the change in reality from book 1. So there is less "fact" to learn from here, but the whole is really worth the effort, what could have been is frightening and I really hope this era is explored futher. I haven't gotten any of their civil war books, but want to.
"Wow, what I never knew I didn't know!"
The alternative history part of this book is later on in the execution of the attack, but the lead up really opened my eyes to the real world of the 1930's era. Most of this book is "set-up" and Newt does an amazing job of laying the foundations for this pivotal event.
