In her compelling, beautifully crafted novel, New York Times best-selling author Marie Bostwick celebrates friendships old and new - and the unlikely threads that sometimes lead us exactly where we need to go. Christmas is fast approaching, and New Bern, Connecticut, is about to receive the gift of a new pastor, hired sight unseen to fill in while Reverend Tucker is on sabbatical. Meanwhile, Margot Matthews’ friend, Abigail, is trying to matchmake, even though Margot has all but given up on romance.

What could Marie Bostwick have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

The main character is flawless and very self depreciating. Unfortunately, she is also quite stupid. Her ex is a terrible, terrible person. Her father is a terrible terrible person. The guy, what's his name, who is appointed by the court to make a recommendation as to where Olivia where live is a terrible terrible person. I mean these are just awful people with no redeeming values that I can see. But it is all wrapped up pretty as can be in a New York minute (or in the last couple of chapters). Also, Margot recovering from her near rape as if it never happened. Really? Also, does the author not like men because the worse of the worse people in this book were all men. The women were all pretty saintly.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I liked the performers in this book. That is if Margot was suppose to be as insipid as she sounded (which I believe she was).

    Any additional comments?

I was surprised that Olivia was cured so incredibly fast and became a well adjusted perfect little girl within minutes. Talk about miracles. All in all this book had very little redeeming qualities. The only one I can see was Reverend Tucker. I loved Reverend Tucker and that whole story line but it was only an aside in this book. But Margot and her family and ex and all that was just plain dull. Margot fell in love with Paul but thought that Paul was in love with someone else until the very end. Then wedding bells for the happy couple Margot and Paul in a half chapter. It seems the author just wanted to end this dull book as fast as she could and it shows.

Larry McMurtry's American epic, set in the late 19th century, tells the story of a cattle drive from Texas to Montana, a drive that represents not only a daring foolhardy adventure, but a part of the American Dream for everyone involved.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I did not finish this book. I only lasted 4 1/2 hours in. I don't think anything would have made this a better experience for me.

Would you ever listen to anything by Larry McMurtry again?

    No

What three words best describe Lee Horsley’s performance?

Lee Horsley's performance was fine. The Southern drawl and even cadence was soothing and calming. Really a lovely voice.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Boredom

    Any additional comments?

This book was not for me. I could not finish it! I love my audiobooks but having Lee Horsley read this VERY VERY slow moving western put me to sleep every time. I just found it plain boring.

All is not well in Margrave, Georgia. The sleepy, forgotten town hasn't seen a crime in decades, but within the span of three days it witnesses events that leave everyone stunned. An unidentified man is found beaten and shot to death on a lonely country road.

Would you consider the audio edition of Killing Floor to be better than the print version?

I have not read the print version of this book.

What about Dick Hill’s performance did you like?

Dick Hill is one of my very favorite performers. From Southern Belle to Boston Cop to 90 year old men, this guy has the velvet voice. One of the best performers out there.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There were so many "NO WAY" moments in this book. So many twists and turns that I often held my breath. Fast paced and thrilling.

    Any additional comments?

I cannot wait to listen to the next Jack Reacher installment (Die Trying).

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Help to be better than the print version?

My mother speaks very little of her childhood. She was born in 1935 in Savannah Georgia and was quite privileged. I knew my mother lived in a fine house with a maid and went to a nice school and attended wonderful parties. She is a gentle Southern woman who left Savannah when she was 20 and never, ever went back. She moved to Chicago then to California. So I was very surprised when she told me to READ THIS BOOK. That she lived this era and knew many women like the white women in this story. That her father built a shack in the back yard and called it a bathroom for her colored maid whom my mother loved so much. She said it was awful. My mother also said that this book is so spot on of the era that she lived in and escaped from as soon as she could. I finally understood my mother's staunch support of equal rights. I understood why my mother was arrested several times for standing side by side with people of color so that they (and women) could have the rights of white men. It was like a light bulb going off in my head.I read this book (listened to this book) and I laughed and I cried. WOW! Not so long ago. I loved the women in this book. I wanted to read the book that they were writing. I loved the characters and simply loathed others. You really get to know the women (and a few of the men) and I enjoyed that very much. This book was time well spent.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Help?

When I found out what Minnie had done to Miss Hilly that she didn't want anyone else to know. WOW!

Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?

I am not use to several performers on one book but I must say I enjoyed it so much. I did not have a favorite but looked forward to each new chapter as it came.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES!! But since it was 18 hours long I had to break it up a bit.

    Any additional comments?

    LOVED IT!!!
