Raised in a Pennsylvania Amish community, young mother Rachel Yoder has led a simple life within her close-knit family. Widowed three years ago, she has moved back in with her parents, attempting to raise her daughter, Katie, without further emotional upheaval. Meanwhile, four hours and a whole world away in New York City, Ellie Lawrence is laser-focused on a high-powered public relations career, with too little time for her family, her friends, or even her boyfriend.

    Nothing

The year is 1960, and, as it is every year, the Christmas pageant at St. John's Episcopal Church is a very big deal. Doug is a shepherd this year, which is better than being a "Three King", because, for one thing, you get to carry a stick.

All the reviews talked about how touching and funny this story was. Well I admit I didn't make it but about half way. The story was adolescent but not funny and all the touching stuff must be at the end.

On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me—well, actually, my true love, Darcy O’Mara, is spending a feliz navidad tramping around South America. Meanwhile, Mummy is holed up in a tiny village called Tiddleton-under-Lovey with that droll Noel Coward! And I’m snowed in at Castle Rannoch with my bumbling brother, Binky, and sourpuss sister-in-law, Fig.

Would you listen to The Twelve Clues of Christmas again? Why?

Yes. I repeat good Christmas book every year or so.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Good suspense. The characters are not transparent, they have depth. I usually figure out the "catch", not this time.

There was one factor that the terrorists didn’t take into account when they struck the Capitana oil platform off the coast of Colombia - slaughtering much of the crew and blowing up the platform - and that was the Capitana crew chief, Dewey Andreas. Dewey, former Army Ranger and Delta, survives the attack, rescuing as many of his men as possible. But the battle has just begun....

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

    Different narrator

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

After the first few chapters, I'm trying to decide whether to finish. The reviews are great and I'm a big fan of Flynn and others in this genre. But the early narration is so bad I don't think I can take it.

What didn???t you like about Peter Hermann???s performance?

Slow delivery. No difference between the characters. No difference in Dewey whether he's talking to crew or reminiscing about his son. Very flat and monotone.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment. The reviews had been so exciting
