John Puller is a former war hero and now the best military investigator in the U.S. Army’s Criminal Investigative Division. He is a loner with few possessions by preference, but he has an indomitable spirit and an unstoppable determination for finding the truth. His father was the most decorated U.S. Marine in history, but now resides in a nursing home far from his battlefield glory. Puller’s older brother, also a military vet, is serving a life sentence in Leavenworth Penitentiary. Puller is called out to a remote, rural area far from any military outpost to investigate into the brutal murder of a family....

I liked the book, the story and characters and was entertained whenever I listened, but it didn't cause me to steal time from other pursuits for a quick blast and to catchup on story progress, it was just a little predictable and so less additive.

Military criminal investigator John Puller is drawn closer to home when his aunt is found dead in her house in Paradise, Florida. The local police have ruled the death as an accident, but Puller finds evidence to suggest that she may well have been murdered. On the surface the town lives up to its name, but as Puller digs deeper he realises that this town and its inhabitants are more akin to Hell than Paradise. His belief is confirmed as evidence of strange and inexplicable events come to light.

Daniel Silva delivers another spectacular thriller starring Gabriel Allon, The English Girl. When a beautiful young British woman vanishes on the island of Corsica, a prime minister’s career is threatened with destruction. Allon, the wayward son of Israeli intelligence, is thrust into a game of shadows where nothing is what it seems...and where the only thing more dangerous than his enemies might be the truth.…

    Story

Very good book with a rich story line, the overall complexity, detail and story were as expected for this series and I will continue to read/listen to Allon's continued escapades.

I didn't find the whole group of characters completely believable but that didn't detract at all.

Given the importance of what they do and the controversies that often surround them, and the violent people they sometimes confront, it is remarkable that in the history of the USA only four active federal judges have been murdered. Judge Raymond Fawcett just became number five. His body was found in the small basement of a lakeside cabin he had built himself and frequently used on weekends. When he did not show up for a trial on Monday morning, his law clerks panicked, called the FBI, and in due course the agents found the crime scene. There was no forced entry, no struggle, just two dead bodies

I enjoyed the listen but the pace of events was a little slow at times and this detracted from the enjoyment.

An interesting twist of events in the story that I hadn't seen coming from afar and the reading was very well done. I will need to check out other Grisham books before I know whether this pace is typical.

Hailed as the finest combat aviation novel to emerge from the Vietnam War, Flight of the Intruder spent 28 weeks on the New York Times hardcover best-seller list and became one of the top-20 best-selling first novels of all time. An instant classic, the book was translated into more than 20 languages and made into a major motion picture. Its hero, Jake Grafton, became a household name and the star of many more Coonts’ best-sellers. Without question, the strength of the book lies in its flying scenes when Jake Grafton straps himself into the cockpit of his A-6 Intruder.

A very long time ago I owned and heard this book on an earlier media type, possibly tape. I had forgotten until I started listening that I knew the story, I do not regret re purchasing.

This is an overall great story with a lively and interesting group of characters that were a pleasure to see through Jakes Graftons eyes. It ended too soon for me, one more chapter to close out the characters recovery after their rescue would have helped me.... I worried about them... this means then, that I was captivated which is a good indication of the quality of the entertainment.

    A very good listen.

The characters and story line were rich and enveloping and it was all at a good pace, I was hooked early and wanted to remain in my car at my destination and continue listening.
The reading by Robert Glenister was brilliant and I will be looking for more he has done, I hope he continues through any further of the series (and there must be a series).

So .... great book & performance - hope more follows soon.

    Story

The story on a whole was good – although a couple of moments where characters did things that just seemed too unlikely, to the point where you stopped being absorbed and starting thinking of why. It was too good a story for the convenient easy move of putting a victim in need of rescue during the final action.

My lasting feeling of disappointment with this listening experience was the narrating, or at least just one aspect of the narrating that would otherwise have been good. This aspect was so grating and horrible that it destroyed every moment created and broke every spell created ....It was the very very very feeble and breathy voice of every female, this above all else dropped this experience to the lowest listen of all so far.

For Gabriel and his beautiful wife, Chiara, it was supposed to be the start of a pleasant weekend in London - a visit to an art gallery in St. James’s to authenticate a newly discovered painting by Titian, followed by a quiet lunch at an Italian restaurant along the Strand. But a pair of deadly bombings in Paris and Hamburg has already marred this sparkling autumn day. And while walking along Wellington Street, the ever-vigilant Gabriel notices a man whom he believes is about to carry out a third attack.
