Yes. I would listen to this book and all the Walt Longmire books again. Guidall's reading is exquisite. And I really like Walt, Vick, and Henry. It was fun to see Walt outside of Wyoming doing his sheriff thing.

I compare Walt Longmire to Miles Vorksigan in the Barrayar series of Bujold. Although different in many ways, they are similar where it counts. They solve problems, they have issues, they are surrounded by great people, etc.

I cannot imagine Walt Longmire with any other voice than George's. If suddenly I found that one of the volumes in the series was by another reader, I would be shocked and dismayed (such as happened when the Dresden series changing from James Marsters). George does a great job with the other voices too. So, his reading enriches the experience.

Sorry about the cliche headline but within 10 minutes into this book I realized I was enjoying it immensely on many levels. Great story. Great humor. Great characters. Fantastic narration. I realized that this was something special and I knew I would soon be getting the entire series and would probably listen to the series several times over the next few years.
Although completely different characters and genre, I like Sheriff Walt as much as I like Miles Vorkosigan in Bujold's Barrayar novels.

I particularly liked the mystical touch when Walt was saving Henry during the blizzard. It was well done. It wasn't obviously supernatural, which I don't care for, but it was evocative. It expressed Walt's connection to his best friend, Henry, a Cheyenne.

I liked any scene with Vick in it. She is great.

Yes. And then I'd start over and listen again.

I hope the other books in the series are as good.

I had never realized how innovative Steve Martin's humor was. I had only enjoyed it immensely since first experiencing it on SNL and his standup albums. He reads in a rather flat voice but it is Steve himself and that makes it so special. I have trouble imagining reading the book when I can hear it in his own voice. Insightful and revealing. Even touching.
