Lou Welcome, from Palmer's bestselling Oath of Office, is back in this heart stopping medical thriller. A desperate phone call embroils Lou in scandal and murder involving Dr. Gary McHugh, known around the Capital as the "society doc." Lou has been supervising McHugh, formerly a black-out drinker, through his work with the Physician Wellness Office. McHugh has been very cavalier about his recovery, barely attending AA and refusing a sponsor. But Lou sees progress, and the two men are becoming friends.

Why we think it’s a great listen: How do you one-up a book that’s already a global literary phenomenon? Hire Simon Vance to (flawlessly) interpret the loves, lives, and murders of Sweden’s cold and secret-filled world. A spellbinding amalgam of murder mystery, family saga, love story, and financial intrigue. It's about the disappearance 40 years ago of Harriet Vanger, a young scion of one of the wealthiest families in Sweden.

If you could sum up The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in three words, what would they be?

    you'll never forget

What did you like best about this story?

The underlying connection of all those people... described in excruciating detail.... my kind of story really...... I can promise you that you'll never forget the name Lizbeth Salander..... All of their travails will really be just be below the surface of your conscious. I know, some people will say that it's just another story about a story..... but I believe it's more than that... I believe that it's really the examiner being examined by someone he feels completely inferior.... then finding out .....really who's inferior.... the first of a great series... don't miss out....read the books.....listen to the books....see the movies...the Swedish version then the American version..... I promise you....you won't ever see life the same again.....

In the richest neighborhood of Minneapolis, two elderly women lie murdered in their home, killed with a pipe, the rooms tossed, only small items stolen. It is clearly the random work of someone looking for money to buy drugs. But as Davenport looks more closely, he begins to wonder whether the items are actually so small and the victims so random; if there might not be some invisible agenda at work here. Gradually, a pattern begins to emerge, and it leads him to...certainly nothing he ever expected.

Sheryl Baumgart says: "Another great read"
    "Lucas Davenport ......."
    Overall

This one was a little thin....but very good. There are points where the killers are obvious....but the story is drawn out....assuming that we can't figure it out. Big and little....come on John. I did like the effort though.....however I think Flowers will replace Davenport.....hmmmmmm.

Virgil Flowers kicked around for a while before joining the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. First it was the army and the military police, then the police in St. Paul, and finally Lucas Davenport brought him into the BCA, promising him, "We'll only give you the hard stuff." He's been doing the hard stuff for three years now, but never anything like this.

Crystal says: "Great winding road of a story"
    "That F***ing Flowers"
    Overall

Typical Sandford.....new character is just a younger Davenport.....only smarter I think. We'll see.......

An exotic mystery set in 11th-century Japan....Akitada is on his way to the bedside of his dying mother when bad weather forces him to take refuge in a temple whose central treasure is a brilliantly painted hell screen. Perhaps its violent imagery influences his dreams: that night he is awakened by a terrible scream.

It's only after Akitada returns to his family and a scene of domestic unhappiness and scandal that the significance of that cry becomes clear.

I wish I had read this one in order.....UGHHHHH. This one is set when Akitada takes a job in the far north, and the trials the family endures while up there. But, this is a very good novel featuring this family and his retainers.

From Boston, a disgraced medical student travels to South America to deliver a research paper that could save her career and becomes a victim of an unspeakable crime...Thousands of miles away, a brilliant, reclusive scientist, dying from an incurable disease that threatens to make each tortured breath his last, is on the verge of perfecting a serum that could save millions of lives.

"Palmer at his best .........I guess"
    Overall

I've read everything that Palmer has written, and this book is very much like his others ...however....some of the characters that could have used some development. But the book ended way-way too soon. It could have used another 200 pages. Interesting topic. Excellent plot and the book flies... so be ready. It's non-stop.
