In Taking the Stand, Dershowitz reveals the evolution of his own thinking on such fundamental issues as censorship and the First Amendment, Civil Rights, Abortion, homicide, and the increasing role that science plays in a legal defense. Alan Dershowitz, the Felix Frankfurter Professor of Law at Harvard University, and the author of such acclaimed bestsellers as Chutzpah, The Best Defense, and Reversal of Fortune, for the first time recounts his legal biography.

Where does Taking the Stand rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is one of the best autobiographies I have read.

What did you like best about this story?

I felt I was 'there' throughout...totally engaged. The vignettes throughout were delightful and interesting.

Did Ella Dershowitz and Alan Dershowitz do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

It was quite disconcerting to have a female narrator for a male's story. And she has that somewhat typical vocal pattern so common to young females these days. Her expresssion and pronounciations were good. But having heard the author read his own intro...I would have much preferred he read the entire book..or at least have a male narrator. Knowing Ella was his daughter, I had to keep reminding myself she was reading it as Alan and not as herself.

    Any additional comments?

Sure wish narrator was male. Quite disappointed.

As America's Mercury Seven astronauts were launched on death-defying missions, television cameras focused on the brave smiles of their young wives. Overnight, these women were transformed from military spouses into American royalty. Together with the other wives they formed the Astronaut Wives Club, meeting regularly to provide support and friendship. As their celebrity rose - and as divorce and tragic death began to touch their lives - they continued to rally together, and the wives have now been friends for more than fifty years.

Would you try another book from Lily Koppel and/or Orlagh Cassidy?

    No...

Would you recommend The Astronaut Wives Club to your friends? Why or why not?

No. It is short on narrative and long on trite details. It is gossipy in tone..both written and narration.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

YES! The tone became sarcastic when passages were describing the husband's behaviors...much as though a group of unhappy women were sharing their husband's miss-deeds. Very unpleasant to listen to.

Do you think The Astronaut Wives Club needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

It needs a completely new book with more factual information from the wives...more integration into the history of the times.

    Any additional comments?

I am only 8 chapters into it, and I am already cringing when I hear the narrator quote Kennedy or launch into a male voice. I have not paid much attention to critiques re narration before, but wish I had before purchasing this.
