"Extraordinary - best SciFi book I have read"
Mr. Dietz and Mr. Corren combine to present one of the truly entertaining SciFi thrillers of the year. This is, without a doubt, the best SciFi book I have had the good fortune to read(listen). I would recommend this book for both the Hugo and Nebula awards. If you were only going to read one SciFi book, you must read this one. I found myself unable to put it down, it was so entertaining.
"Cyborg and sci-fi military combination"
Yes, This is the best compilation of cyborg and military sci-fi I have yet listened to. I love both and this book puts them together in five exciting yet unique stories.
I think the most memorable moment was in the first book where the protagonist is about to be crushed by a giant. When I was listening I thought I had bought the wrong book. Based on the first few lines, I thought the books would turn out to be fantasy which I dislike. However, there was a pause when the reader said let me explain how we got to this situation. From then on, the book was complete "on the edge of your seat" excitement.
The narrator was perfect for this series of stories. He has the exact pitch and tenor to make the stories interesting and easy to listen to.
Cyborgs in the 23rd century
I usually don't like compilations but you would miss a great book if you passed this one by.
"Well planned and written mystery"
Jon Stanton is a reluctant police officer with strong moral fiber and a PhD in Psychology; not a combination likely to make him popular. The department he works in is rife with corruption at the same time a serial killer(s) set up shop in his town. He uncovers the corruption, maintains his integrity despite repeated attempts at compromise, but puts those around him at great risk. It is a fascinating ending for an unusual police story.
yes, with the twists and turns the author wove into a very believable story about an individual who had strong moral conviction and very poor financial security.
no
The book made me not want to shut it off until the end.
"Outstanding book, great mystery"
I was very impressed by the narrator. Ms. McDowell made this book great with her reading of a room full of bones. One of the best books I have had the pleasure of listening to this year. I look forward to other books in this series and I hope to find others that Ms. McDowell narrates.
"Best of the three"
This is the best of the trilogy. Hamilton has created an interesting, exciting, and engaging SciFi book; Longworth does a magnificent job of presenting it. I found the other books in the Mandel series sort of mundane but this one is very well done.
"Great gamer book"
Niven has outdone himself. This is an excellent listen. It is a "gamers in space" book and caused me to think of the movie TRON. At any rate, you will enjoy the game overlaid with the game overlaid with the game and all of it happens on the moon. What is real and what is not? You will enjoy listening and trying to figure out the answer to that question along with the characters in the story.
"Great SciFi listen"
Without giving away the plot, the book is a little confusing at the outset. However, stick with it and all will become clear. I thought the author could have provided more details regarding his description of futuristic objects and events. I found it difficult to visualize some of the things in the book. However, the shortcoming was more than offset by the imagination of the author and the flow of the action. A good listen.
"Hybrid"
Defining Diana is a hybrid, a mixture of mystery and SciFi. The mixture is about 70% mystery and 30% SciFi. If you like these type hybrids, then this is a great book. It is set in the future where there are a mix of cyborgs and humans. However, the book spends most of its time working out the details of a mystery. If you like those type books, you will like this one; if you are looking for a SciFi book you may be disappointed.
"great listen"
This story is way too short. It is interesting, well written, and well told. I can't wait for more from this author. In fact, this story ended way too early. It was riveting; could not put it down.
"Superb first story"
This is the first in a series of books and it is excellent! Corey has done a superb job and the narration is spot on. The story includes mystery, intrigue, futuristic thinking, and psychological hooks that keep you coming back for more. You will not want to stop listening once you start this book and that is one of the key qualities I look for in any audio experience. I highly recommend this book. I can'
t wait for the next installment.
"Best by author"
Without doubt, Pushing Ice is the best book I have listened to by Reynolds. The book is exciting, interesting, and imaginative. Even though the book is long [3 parts] it will hold your attention throughout. If you only listen to one book by this author, this is the one you want to choose. It is his best work..
