Travis Morgan’s case seems open and shut: A plot to kill his estranged father, fundamentalist preacher Arlie Morgan, goes awry and his bullet slays an innocent bookkeeper. Two eyewitnesses seal Travis’ fate. But despite damning evidence and an admitted hatred of his father, Travis staunchly maintains his innocence. Beseeched by his anguished mother, veteran defense attorney Barbara Holloway agrees to represent Travis. With the support of her father, attorney Frank Holloway, and crack private investigator Bailey, Barbara reveals a zealot, his ultrarich backers, and unimaginable atrocities.

I am a huge Kate Wilhelm fan and have listened to every Barbara Holloway novel. That's why this one was such a huge disappointment. Both the author and the narrator seem to have run out of gas. The plot was boring and the characters were so underderdeveloped that it was difficult to care about the outcome. I really struggled to get to the end. If you have not experienced this author before, skip this one and go for the earlier books.

All her life, Sara Gallagher has wondered about her birth parents. As an adopted child with two sisters who were born naturally to her parents, Sara did not have an ideal home life. The question of why she was given up for adoption has always haunted her. Finally, she is ready to take steps and to find closure. But some questions are better left unanswered.

    Overall

I enjoyed this author's previous novel, but thisbook feels as if someone else wrote it. The dialogue is stilted, the characters are not blieveable and I'm forcing myself to finish because I paid for it! The narrator sounds too chipper and cheerful, as though she is reading to children and doesn't want them to be disturbed by the scary parts. This is a big disappointment - don't waste your time.

As a prosecutor in Houston, Penn Cage sent killers to death row. But as mayor of his hometown - Natchez, Mississippi - Penn will face his most dangerous threat. Urged by old friends to try to restore this fading jewel of the Old South, Penn has ridden into office on a tide of support for change. But in its quest for new jobs and fresh money, Natchez has turned to casino gambling, and now five steamboats float on the river beside the old slave market, like props from Gone With the Wind.

"Another Great One from Greg Iles"
    Overall

I have listened to most of Greg Iles novels and particularly like the ones with the recurring character of Penn Cage. Dick Hill is a masterful narrator, nailing the accents and setting a good pace. A thoroughly enjoyable listen!

Ridley Jones is trying to get on with her life when a seemingly mundane act - picking up a few envelopes of prints at a photo lab - puts her at the nexus of a global network of crime. The shadowy figure of a man appears in almost every picture she's taken in the last year, lurking just far enough away to make identification impossible. Now the FBI is at her door, some serious bad guys are following her every move, and the family she once loved and relied on is more distant than ever.

a little hard to swallow at times. it is really necessary to have read the previous book, (beautiful lies) to understand the thread of the story in this one. it was good to have some closure as the previous books conclusion was open ended.
