"Hoag has it..."
I always enjoy a book that is successful in creating a strong but likeable female as the central character. Elena Estes is just that; tough yet incredibly fragile, gutsy but dealing with deep fears, just a good complex character with a great wisecrack built right in. I'm hoping that there is a future for this her in books to come. It will be interesting to see how she develops....
"At Last..."
Finally a sci-fi/fantasy series that doesn't make me feel like I am 12! Yep, there are certainly adult situations, and violence to boot. But there is also a complex story, plots and subplots, magic, politics, morality, mystery, and a narrator that knocks it all out of the park!
Thanks to GRRM for such a colorful and beloved tale. Characters I cherish, a battle of good and evil, tragedy that is sometimes stunning, and the warmth provided by a central family of characters who are worthy of the many hours of this tale. I never wanted it to end!
"Loved It!"
An interesting tale, supported by great narration. The narrator is wonderful at speaking the different characters' parts without sounding silly. Yep, the story is a long story, but I didn't want it to end, and am eager for the unabridged versions of the sequels to be available at Audible. I would much rather involve myself in a long tale than a hit-and-run fast book.
My only detraction was that though it was not gross or anything, I felt sometimes the sex was over done. I'm pretty sure I'm not a prude, but sometimes I just wanted to say, "Ok, they lust for one another, I get it!" LOL If the adult content is the biggest flaw, then this is a winner!!
"Amazing"
Martin has written a wonderful tale and Roy Dotrice has the Gleeman's Gift for storytelling.
Finally a fantasy novel that is complex and carries the tale to an adult listener.
This is my 'best read' series in all my 4 years at Audible.
"Hail to the King"
I can't recommend this book strongly enough. The characters are so full and full of life. King's narration was incredible; especially the personality and voice of Kyra. The addition of the music by "Sarah" was amazing, and I would certainly like to see more credit to King for the lyrics and the woman who performed it....wonderful.
For long-time King fans, I would share that this book reminds me more of The Stand than any other I have read/heard. Not because of the theme, but because of the way I loved the characters so.... I think I have a new King Favorite....
"Well worth a listen"
Tempe Brennan is a character with a sharp mind and a sharp tongue. Some of her wise cracks made me laugh out loud. The story was interesting but could have been "fuller" (sometimes it seems like things that list as unabridged have been condensed)
"A decent listen in the series"
Harry Bosch & Terry McCaleb......a pretty solid combination. I rated this 3 out of 5 because I just felt like Connelly didn't quite capture me with the story. With Bosch in jeopardy, it should have...but fell a bit short. Good, just not excellent.
"Simply a classic"
This story has it all: evil men, magic, adventure, a boy and his mother who are linked to another world and a dying queen, creatures of wonder as well as horror, and the best and worst of humankind. All of these headed across the continent on a collision course to the California coast.
