Anthony Trollope's classic novel centers on Mr. Harding, a clergyman of great personal integrity whose charitable income far exceeds the purpose for which it was intended. On discovering this, young John Bold turns his reforming zeal toward exposing what he regards as an abuse of privilege, despite the fact that he is in love with Mr. Harding's daughter, Eleanor.

Good story. A classic in the classic-but-not-Dickens sense. Good narration, even on the females. I'm continuing the series, so it must be good.

There are at least 68 million dogs in America, and their owners lavish billions of dollars on them every year. So why do so many pampered pets have problems? In this definitive and accessible guide, Cesar Millan, star of National Geographic Channel's hit show Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan, reveals what dogs truly need to live a happy and fulfilled life.

This has given me the resolve to get a handle on my dogs' various issues and hope that I might succeed. Now we'll see if I can pull it off. This book is more about the dog/human power struggle and how to win it than anything like training tips. It's about getting the dog and people to have the right attitude which hopefully will be reflected in behavior.

History has all but forgotten.... In the spring of 1708, an invading Jacobite fleet of French and Scottish soldiers nearly succeeded in landing the exiled James Stewart in Scotland to reclaim his crown. Now, Carrie McClelland hopes to turn that story into her next best-selling novel. Settling herself in the shadow of Slains Castle, she creates a heroine named for one of her own ancestors and starts to write. But then she discovers her novel is more fact than fiction....

I've read it. I've listened to it. And I'm ready to do it again. What a tremendous book! The historical fiction is set to the Jacobite rebellion, not a topic I've ever been interested in, actually. But no matter. This book--both stories (you'll see what I mean)--created the interest and maintained it. Kearsley creates characters you can care about in every century. This book is full of suspense down to the last sentence. Don't miss it. (I still can't decide whether I like this or Kearsley's The Rose Garden best. I've re-read both, something I rarely do. This one grabbed my attention more quickly but other than that I think it's a toss up. They are both over the top fantastic. (This review is by the female half of this account, btw)

  • Hamlet, Prince of Denmark: A Novel

It is a tale of ghosts, of madness, of revenge - of old alliances giving way to new intrigues. Denmark is changing, shaking off its medieval past. War with Norway is on the horizon. And Hamlet - son of the old king, nephew of the new - becomes increasingly entangled in a web of deception - and murder. Beautifully performed by actor Richard Armitage ("Thorin Oakenshield" in the Hobbit films), Hamlet, Prince of Denmark takes Shakespeare’s original into unexpected realms, reinventing a story we thought we knew.

Just as great as their audio novelization of Macbeth, perhaps even better. The narration, the story, everything is unsurpassed. Shakespeare himself I think would be pleased.

Ancient Rome has been in a state of turmoil as the rival gangs of Publius Clodius, a high-born, populist politician, and his arch-enemy, Titus Milo, have fought to control the consular elections. When Clodius is murdered on the famed Appian Way and Milo is accused of the crime, the city explodes with riots and arson, and even the near sacrosanct Senate House is burned to the ground.

I had started reading this book and got busy with other things so I thought I'd give the audio a try. Not sure I can make it through though. This narrator is worse than a synthetic voice. Mispronunciations, wooden, no characterization, akin to listening to a first grader struggle through. Maddening, absolutely maddening. I should have paid attention to the other reviewers. If there were a 0 star option for performance this would get it. Hope the gentleman hasn't quit his day job.

Molly Murphy's beau Captain Daniel Sullivan may be out of jail on bail, but he's still a ways from clearing his name, and his foul mood has Molly in search of a little breathing room when providence steps in in the form of a proposition from New York City's renowned theatrical impresario Tommy Burke. America has been very good to Tommy, and now that he's getting on in years, he'd like to pass some of that good fortune on to his family back in Ireland.

I enjoy this entire series. The narrator is great---knew her voice from Kearsley's Rose Garden and immediately bought the first book when I recognized her voice on the sample. This one takes a particularly interesting turn, keeping our character from being just a NancyDrew/MissMarpleTheYounger/CaseOfTheWeek type of story. This one really broadens the scope of the story. Listen to them in order. After this one I knew I'd continue to listen and enjoy.

It was a time of legend, the last shadows of the mighty Roman conqueror faded from the captured Isle of Britain. While, across a vast sea, bloody war shattered a peace that had flourished for 2,000 years in the doomed kingdom of Atlantis. This is the remarkable adventure of Charis, the courageous princess from Atlantis who escapes the terrible devastation of her land, and of the fabled seer and druid prince Taliesin, singer at the dawn of the age. It is a story of an incomparable love that joins two astonishing worlds....

This is a pretty reasonable opening for the Arthur saga/backstory. I'm glad btw that I've already read CS Lewis's Space Trilogy (all the way to the end) as well as King Arthur's Bones (medieval murderers) as those stories honestly gave me more patience with this one. (I recommend you listen to both of those first.) This book takes a long time to get going as another reviewer said, and it was actually that review to got me to finish it. I'm glad I did. Haven't decided whether or not to go further. I believe now that I actually care about these people I'd like to know how the author develops the rest of the Arthurian saga, but i don't think I can take Fred.Davidson's narration of it. (I've listened to lots of his stuff, and after a while it all grates.) May just need to read it if Audible doesn't get another narrator to do them.
