Architect and family man Lee Morris never gave much thought to the shares he inherited of the Stratton Park racecourse, the multi-million dollar property owned by the powerful Stratton family. His mother had first received the shares to keep her quiet about the abuse she had suffered at the hands of her first husband, Keith Stratton. Now, much to Lee's chagrin, he is being drawn into the thick of the Stratton family squabbles as they wage a furious debate over the future of the race track.

Dick Frances always delivers. His character development is the best in the business. He and James Lee Burke are the only authors I can go back and listen to the same book multiple times.
Simon Prebble is fantastic as the narrator.
I highly recommend this book as I do all of Dick Francis books.

Given the importance of what they do, and the controversies that often surround them, and the violent people they sometimes confront, it is remarkable that in the history of this country only four active federal judges have been murdered. Judge Raymond Fawcett has just become number five.... Nothing is as it seems and everything’s fair game in this wickedly clever new novel from John Grisham, the undisputed master of the legal thriller.

What disappointed you about The Racketeer?

It was a terrible story line. It is boring. I dont care for the characters. Its like Grisham wrote the book in a day. I want my money back.

What do you think your next listen will be?

    Mad River by J Sandford

Would you be willing to try another one of J.D. Jackson’s performances?

    no thx-boring performance

What character would you cut from The Racketeer?

all-start over and devlope characters that listeners can like or hate but not be indefferent about.

    Any additional comments?

I like Grisham but this book is aweful

Wow....this was a fun listen! If you like Al Roker then you will love Billy Blessing! Its like Roker died and came back as a chef. I know what you are thinking....Al Roker wrote a book about a character that solves murders AND is a gourmet chef? Yes, and what a great character he has created in Billy Blessing. He is a fun, smart, and gets a lady or two while poking around and solving murders. Like I say-lots of fun! Have a listen......

On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

Suzanne says: "The scare is in the human nature under stress."

If you like Stephen King then buy this book. It was 34 hours for less than $20. King does a great job developing his characters but there are too many to keep track of. It was slow in places but a good listen for the money.
