With the help of an unusual set of cronies, bank robber John Dortmunder puts a set of wheels under a trailer that just happens to be the temporary site of the Capitalists' & Immigrants' Trust and hauls it away. But when the safe won't open and the cops get close, Dortmunder realizes he's got to find a place to ditch the "bank".

Would you try another book from Donald E. Westlake and/or Jeff Woodman?

i probably would try another book by these guys. it was a nice change from the ultra serious books, or high energy levels some books have. not to say there wasn't action, but the humor is why you listen/read these books.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

no need to change the story in my opinion, it was well written and had clever humor.

Have you listened to any of Jeff Woodman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

i don't believe i've listened to JW before, but he did a great job varying the voices so it's easy to tell who is speaking. i think he was excellent!

Could you see Bank Shot being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

yeah, i could see this being made into a show or movie. i could see many people acting the parts, perhaps will farrell...

    Any additional comments?

nice change of pace from the norm! give it a "shot"! ô¿ô

A few years before the fall of the Berlin Wall, spook-turned-novelist Edwin Lemaster revealed to up-and-coming journalist Bill Cage that he’d once considered spying for the enemy. For Cage, a Foreign Service brat who grew up in the very cities where Lemaster’s books were set, the news story created a brief but embarrassing sensation and heralded the beginning of the end of his career in journalism. More than two decades later, Cage, now a lonely, disillusioned PR man, receives an anonymous note....

Where does The Double Game rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

i can't give this book a specific ranking among all of the books i've listened to, but i truly enjoyed listening to The Double Game, and i bet you will as well!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Double Game?

well, if i told you, i'd have to kill you...

What about Peter Berkrot’s performance did you like?

he did a great job as a narrator. when the novel called for a more up tempo narration, you're drawn into the vortex, and at other times when things needed to be slowed down, his voicing did justice. perfectly cast.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

not one specific moment i can recall (i am on my 4th audiobook since this one) but as you've probably read already, the author uses other books as a kind of map of clues, and these have sparked my interest and i want to start listening to them as well...

If you could sum up Prey in three words, what would they be?

    you're not safe...

What did you like best about this story?

classic Crichton! i've always loved how he sews together science with science fiction, and Prey is another example in a long list of great Crichton books (along with Jurrasic Park, Sphere, Andromeda Strain, etc).

you can tell he did his homework on the technology behind this story.

What about George Wilson’s performance did you like?

he did an excellent job creating the different characters and he made it easy for me to keep them separated in my head. kudos to him.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

i always have a tough time answering this question, as i've listened to several books since this one. but if you are a fan of Crichton, then this book will not let you down.

    Any additional comments?

highly recommended, and since his (unfortunate) passing, i relish anything i can read/listen to by Crichton.

What was one of the most memorable moments of No Easy Day?

everyone already knows the highlight of the book, but the step by step detail is what makes this particularly gripping.

    Which scene was your favorite?

    the killshot.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Seal Team Six: Taking Care of Business!

    Any additional comments?

it's nice to hear how our military takes care of business, whether they get credit for it in the media or not. No political slant here, just real men doing their jobs. Jobs that most of us couldn't handle. I give high praise for this soldier, and all men and women in each branch of the military.

The murder of an Atlanta family years ago, a young woman on death row, and the inexplicable deaths of homeless people as far away as California seem unrelated. But Scarpetta discovers connections that compel her to conclude that what she thought ended with Fielding's death and an attempt on her own life is only the beginning....

What other book might you compare Red Mist to and why?

war and peace. just kidding. i'd have to say that this follows other scarpetta stories well, and it's like those: suspensful, thrilling, entertaining

Which character – as performed by Kate Burton – was your favorite?

i always love to hear marino brought to life through voice acting. his wise guy, insecure/cocky attitude is a great persona to listen to.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

well, i guess that i'd have to say, w/o giving anything away, that i felt upset that scarpetta was being setup and with the evidence built against her made me uncomfortabe...but that helps drive the plot very well!

Hig survived the flu that killed everyone he knows. His wife is gone, his friends are dead, he lives in the hangar of a small abandoned airport with his dog, his only neighbor a gun-toting misanthrope. In his 1956 Cessna, Hig flies the perimeter of the airfield or sneaks off to the mountains to fish and to pretend that things are the way they used to be. But when a random transmission somehow beams through his radio, the voice ignites a hope deep inside him that a better life exists beyond the airport.

If you could sum up The Dog Stars in three words, what would they be?

    i want more...

Who was your favorite character and why?

i'd have to say Hig was my favorite, probably b/c i can relate to him more. he's not a macho man, but he's secure. he's not a fighter, but protects those he cares about, and he enjoys the precious gifts life offers, like the outdoors, cooking, and a faithful dog.

    Which scene was your favorite?

nothing specific comes to mind...it was all very interesting and original

If you could take any character from The Dog Stars out to dinner, who would it be and why?

i'd take Hig to dinner. he's more of a conversationalist than the other characters, and he could teach me to fly his plane.

    Any additional comments?

even though the book deals with "the end of the world as we know it", it isn't a gloom and doom kind of book. it has moments, but you get to see what good is left, even when trying to protect yourself and others, while trying to maintain what life you have left.

What did you love best about The Sins of the Father?

i love how involved i found myself in this story (as well as the first book), caring for the characters, feeling what they felt. their heartbreak through their triumph.

What did you like best about this story?

i enjoyed seeing how everyone gets what they deserved, whether they are a protag. or antag. the ending was a very satisfying conclusion to both books.

What about Alex Jennings and Emilia Fox ’s performance did you like?

alex was superb, and i enjoyed emilia's performance as well, though i kinda smiled to myself hearing her perform a texan accent. i'm from texas, and it was almost like myself trying to do a brittish accent. but they both acted out their (many) roles so well, that i found myself visually drawn in...that is to say that i could see these characters' actions in my mind.
very well read on both accounts.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

i don't want to give specifics away, but somebody got what they deserved! lol

    Any additional comments?

i have been generally listening to action/adventure books and legal thrillers, but these 2 books were a breath of fresh air. i want more! this story was very original, following characters from their childhood through adulthood. their lives and love are what i wish i had...i can't recommend this enough!

First appearing in print in 1890, the character of Sherlock Holmes has now become synonymous worldwide with the concept of a super sleuth. His creator, Conan Doyle, imbued his detective hero with intellectual power, acute observational abilities, a penchant for deductive reasoning and a highly educated use of forensic skills. Indeed, Doyle created the first fictional private detective who used what we now recognize as modern scientific investigative techniques.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

i'd recommend this series for sure. holmes is the greatest detective in history, picking up on details that most would miss. he was CSI before CSI was even in the alphabet!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Complete Stories of Sherlock Holmes, Volume 1?

a case in scarlet was the first holmes story, and from the beginning you are hooked! his eye for detail and his rapid thought process are detailed very well, and as the stories go on, the character fully develops. even if you've read these before, it's great to listen to them as it adds yet another layer on to the sherlock persona.

Have you listened to any of Charlton Griffin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

i have not listened to any of griffin's other works yet, but can't wait to. he does a great job narrating as watson and giving voice to holmes.

Who was the most memorable character of The Complete Stories of Sherlock Holmes, Volume 1 and why?

ummm, i guess i'd have to go with sherlock. why? because he's sherlock!

i'd rate this a very easy four stars out of five! highly recommended.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

sherlock framed. sherlock in jail. enemies helping holmes out? very entertaining novel. if i didn't know doyle didn't write this, i would have believed it was an original sherlock story! an entertaining novel that brings forth everything you love about sherlock holmes and puts him in a precarious situation. can the great sherlock survive? this book is well written, and has a pace that doesn't drag.

What does Derek Jacobi bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

jacobi acts out the various voices with great differences that make it easy to tell who is speaking.
